Open: Mara Explorer Camp is open all year.
Location: The camp is on the banks of the Talek River in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. It has its own all weather airstrip, Ol Kiombo, just 2kms from the camp.
Rooms: There are 10 luxury tents each with its own private river frontage and views over the Talek's wildlife-rich southern banks. The tents have been specially designed to open up to the sky and, on a deck on one side, a Victorian claw-foot bathtub offers secluded open-air bathing and a unique perspective of the African bush. There is a separate shower. Your personal butler is on 24 hour call.
Activities: This camp is all about seeing the wildlife and wilderness of the Masai Mara. You will be able to take game drives, walking safaris in a conservation area, and you can visit a Maasai community. In addition, you could enjoy bush breakfasts and dinners under the stars, and perhaps you might choose to see the Mara from a different angle and take a hot air balloon trip (extra). You can enjoy sundowners at specially chosen locations. Lectures and slideshows on Maasai culture and wildlife are also possible. There is also astronomy with the resident naturalist.
Facilities: The camp has a lounge, library and bar. You will find a selection of board games and playing cards in the lounge. There is a shop with souvenirs and safari essentials at the sister camp (Mara Intrepids) next door. You can also use the swimming pool at Mara Intrepids as Mara Explorer does not have one. The camp provides a laundry service.
Dining: Meals are taken at separate tables at the riverfront dining area
Children: Children aged 12 years and over are welcome.
Health: This is a malarial area.
Communication: In your tent you have a radio communication handset in case of problems. A basic mobile phone reception is possible in many parts of the camp. There is an email service.
