Amankora Thimphu is an impressive building whose architecture reflects the magnificent dzongs for which the country is known. The main white-washed buildings are accessed through an enclosed arrival court. Stairs lead up to the combined living and dining room with high ceilings and wood-panelled walls. The outdoor dining deck looks out to the forest and a nearby stream. The spa features three treatment rooms, a steam room and changing rooms.
Guest suites consist of a combined bedroom and living room with a large bed, reading chair and window seat with views of either the courtyard or the pine forest and stream. A traditional wood-burning stove or bukhari is located between the bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom is spacious and has twin hand basins, a bathtub, separate shower cubicle and toilet.
While here guests can visit Thimphu's folk-heritage and textile museums, and festive ceremonies, which offer an insight into Bhutan's cultural and spiritual traditions. There are also many monasteries and temples in Thimphu that can be visited, as well as shops, food markets and restaurants. Bhutan's nine-hole golf course is in Thimphu and the lodge can arrange tee times.
