Watch the sun go down
Whichever beach you choose, sunsets on Mauritius rarely disappoint. What could be nicer than a warm breeze and cocktail in hand as you watch the sky change colour as another day in paradise draws to a close.

North coast
Trou-aux-Biches and Mont Choisy top the bill for the north coast of the island, miles of sandy beaches, swaying palms and gentle lapping turquoise waters. Continue further north and you’ll reach the town of Grand Baie for those who enjoy a little hustle and bustle and perhaps some shopping. This area is home to some of the most secluded beaches and private coves, adding even more exclusivity and romance to your holiday.
South Coast
The beaches on the south coast are quieter in terms of people and resorts. There is no coral reef protecting the beach so waves can be a little more wild but no less beautiful than those of the other coasts. Here you’ll find some dramatic cliffs too adding variety to the idyllic scenes one typically associates with tropical island life.

West Coast
The west coast is home to Flic en Flac, another pristine lagoon protected piece of island paradise and a place to witness the stunning sunsets. The north part of this stretch is where you’ll find a lively and popular public beach and to the south a number of luxury resorts. Keep heading south and you’ll find Tamarin Bay, a popular spot for dolphin lovers as they are often spotted here on their morning jaunt, it’s also a good option for those with a love for surfing. Further south still is Le Morne Peninsula with Le Morne Brabant mountain providing a photographic backdrop. Less sheltered than the beaches further north, it’s a popular hangout with kite surfers.
East Coast
Belle Mare on the east coast has a well deserved reputation as one of Mauritius’ best beaches. Who wouldn’t love a six mile long beach facing a huge calm lagoon? A walk along the beach will take you past several choice upmarket resorts. Imagine scenes with swaying palms, sun loungers languishing under the shade of a palm frond capped umbrella, a vast sandy beach leading down to calm lapping waters and you’re there!
