Guests at Rios Lodge on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica will be surrounded by pristine primary rainforest. The lodge sits within a 975-hectare private reserve which has over 60kms of hiking trails and several waterfalls, streams and pools. Whether you're feeling active or you want to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area, you can do both at Rios Lodge.

The lodge offers simple accommodation in a delightfully natural setting. Forget thread counts on your sheets and gold plated taps, that's not what it's about. The comfortable rooms vary in size, some large enough to sleep a family of four. You have an en-suite bathroom with hot running water and a shower. There are also dormitory-style rooms that have bunk beds and a shared bathroom.

The beauty of the lodge is that it was founded on strong sustainable principles. It was built using reclaimed wood and hydroelectric power. Most of the employees come from the local community and wherever possible, food is sourced from nearby farms supporting the locals.  You won't find TVs here, nor mobile coverage and intermittent wifi is only available in the  main area - this is all about reconnecting with nature. Leave your worries behind as you relax in a hammock and enjoy the views of the Pacuare River or dine overlooking the gardens and forest as you watch for wildlife and listen to the sounds of the forest.

While you're here, you can try a variety of exciting activities and nature experiences. Try canyoning. Go whitewater rafting (even Stephen Fry has tried it here!). Hike to the top of the Pacuare gorge. There are also guided  trails on the reserve along with a superb 9-line zipline course that crosses the Pacuare River.

There are minimum ages for children which varies during the wet and dry season, so please check with us.
