The area around Cusco is an absolute bikers’ paradise. There are some fantastic cross country tracks which take you through spectacular scenery and down past some of the key sites between Cusco and the Sacred Valley. And there is gentle biking along the valley or adrenaline pumping action from great downhill rides! You can really get off the beaten track along dirt roads, single tracks, donkey paths and llama tracks, and old Inca trails for anything from a half day excursion to a full multi day biking holiday.
One of the most popular day trips is from Cusco to Chinchero, Moray, Maras and Urubamba. It has been hailed as ‘one of the finest 1-day trips in Peru’ by the Footprint guide book but actually it is probably the best one-day bike riding trip in South America. It’s largely downhill across the Chinchero plain and into the Sacred Valley and goes past the circles of Moray and the saltpans at Maras.
Our biking guides are some of the best in Peru and know the area like the back of their hands, and our biking equipment and safety standards are second to none.
The Cusco area and Sacred Valley offer some great mountain biking. If you're staying in Cusco you can easily spend a day cycling in the Sacred Valley, and the trip will include transfers from and to your hotel.
Mountain biking in the Sacred Valley is offered from April to November, avoiding the raining season. In April and June the valley flowers and snow-covered mountains are especially picturesque.
We can book the mountain biking trip as part of your holiday. On the day you will need to take a small backpack, bottle of water, torch, cap, sunglasses, insect repellent and a camera. Helmets are provided. The Chinchero, Moray, Maras, Urubamba trip takes about 5 hours and is mostly on dirt tracks and traditional mule routes. The trip is led by an English-speaking bike guide.
