Best time to visit Bolivia

April to October is generally considered to be the best time to visit Bolivia as it's dry season. This is however the Bolivian winter so be prepared for cold nights and early mornings particularly in June/July in the highlands, but you will be rewarded with crisp, clear blue skies and bright sunny days. January to March is the rainy season and some areas might become inaccessible, climbing becomes dangerous and hiking and biking somewhat arduous in these conditions. The Amazon remains hot and humid throughout the year.

Dry season in Bolivia (April to October)
This is definitely the best time to visit Bolivia. Everywhere is accessible and days are bright and skies are clear. You might consider spring (September - November). This avoids the busy festival period in August and the cold chilly nights of June/July.

In the highlands days are often sunny with beautiful clear skies, excellent for trekking, climbing and mountain biking. The lowlands are best visited at this time too, as it is cooler and less humid, though rain is still possible. Between July and August cold fronts sweep up from Patagonia, which can cause the temperature to drop dramatically, even in the Amazon.

Wet season in Bolivia (January to March)
At this time of year some areas will become inaccessible by road. Travel becomes more difficult and hard-going. If you are interested in climbing, this time of year should be avoided at all costs. Hiking and biking are not quite so much fun when it's wet and muddy either.

The wet or rainy season is more pronounced in the lowlands. In the Amazon flooding is common and roads often become impassable, and it can be hot and humid. It rains much less in the highlands, though trekking trails can still be muddy, and clouds often obscure the view. However, the summer months are good for visiting the Andes when the Altiplano hillsides are transformed for a time into lush grasslands with many wild flowers.
