Houseboats and riverboats
Houseboats are a great way to explore a region with ample rivers and waterways, you’ll get to see and experience things you wouldn’t on land, be that the wildlife of the Chobe River in Botswana, or the people who make their homes on the waterways in Kerala. It’s a unique way of getting around.
The pace allows you to stop and relax and just enjoy the sights of Kerala backwaters around you - not for everyone but certainly fascinating. I do not know how the cook managed to make such delicious food in such a small space and our bed was soooo comfortable.
An inveterate traveller, you could say Ali's got ants in her pants (though you might get a slap if you do!) Ali looks after the product and is also a Tribes writer. Her heart is firmly in the world of responsible travel and sharing the message of 'travel for good'.

Kerala houseboats, India
What a great way to get an insight into life on the backwaters of Kerala in India. The traditionally-built vessels (mostly ex-rice barges) are manned by a captain, chef and cabin assistant.
There are many houseboats and they vary in size and design, but it's definitely an interesting way to explore this part of India.

Southwild Jaguar Flotel in the Pantanal, Brazil
This floating hotel in Brazil's northern Pantanal is a fantastic base from which to enjoy jaguar spotting. It's not luxurious, but it is right in the thick of the action when it comes to looking for jaguars, giant otters, capybaras, monkeys and excellent birdlife. And it's got air-con, a real bonus in the heat.
The flotel welcomes people on set departures led by expert naturalist guides.

Zambezi Queen on the Chobe River, Namibia/Botswana
Leisurely luxurious cruising on the Chobe River in one of four beautifully furnished houseboats such as the gorgeous Zambezi Queen. Although actually based in Namibia, the boats are usually accessed from Botswana.
This is an unusual, luxurious way to experience the flora and fauna around the Chobe River as you explore on small boats, go fishing, birdwatching and more.
