For many, travel is an opportunity to experience other cultures and understand life as the locals live it. What better way to do that than to book a homestay. This is the best way to get to know your host and meet the local community.
Our homestay suggestions reflect the diversity of life, varying from the simple homes of island villagers on Lake Titicaca in Peru to the luxurious home of a former president in Ecuador.
Barwara Kothi is a guest house with real family history. The owner was on hand to lend assistance where required and rooms clean and comfortable with a balcony that looked out on a pleasant garden and parrots to wake us up.

Once the residence of the Barwara royal family in Jaipur, this colonial villa homestay definitely harks back to the era of the Raj. It’s perhaps hard to think of this as a homestay as it feels more like a stay in a heritage guest house. You may or may not meet the family, but you’ll certainly be treated as a very welcome guest.

ECUADOR: Hacienda Zuleta
This is a homestay with a difference as you are welcomed into the luxurious family home of former president Galo Plaza Lasso. The hacienda is still owned and run by members of his family. Get involved with some wonderful experiences such as cooking classes, horse riding, embroidery, milking cows or hiking.
