Holiday review by Mr Michael de Plater

We’ve just arrived home and we’re still processing and sorting through the seven and a half thousand photos. Honestly what was amazing was that every morning and every evening was unique and amazing. There wasn’t one day we weren’t surprised and astounded. It was very cool that even the transit days were awesome. The drive from the airports was a game drive in itself. The surprise of sleeping under the stars on the last night took some of the sting out of going home.

Tribes Overall:

I’ve been looking forward to going to Africa since I was a kid, so it was astounding to have it exceed my expectations in every way. Tracy was a star and every step of the journey was relaxing and smooth.

Tribes Service:

Tracy was stellar. Customized the trip to our requests, answered every question, gave us all the documentation and info we needed. We noticed her name beside the Costa Rica trip on your website and would like to work with her again.

Guides:

Wow. Every guide we met we thought was our favorite until we got to a new camp and they were equally awesome. Ratti at Selinda Explorers was a joy, Kitso was incredibly knowledgeable and cool and Dabona at Camp Kalahari was wonderful. He made sure every moment of our trip was amazing.

Social & Environmental Responsibility:

It is hard to know, but our experience and feelings from talking to the guides and the staff were that overall tourism is positive for the environment in Botswana and provides good jobs and careers as well as an economic boost. Meeting the San Bushman was also surprisingly positive and inspiring.

The places you stayed

AfricaSky Guest House outdoor sitting area and fire

AfricaSky Guest House

South Africa

Very relaxing way to arrive in Africa for the first time. Convenient, comfortable and friendly.

Watch black eagles at Gorge Lodge

Gorges Lodge

Zimbabwe

What an incredible location and the staff were wonderful. We’d organized some of our own activities for the day including The Devil’s Pool and an evening River Cruise and the staff at the lodge sorted out a driver to synchronize everything. Just great.

Evening by the campfire at Selinda Explorers Camp, Botswana © Selinda Explorers Camp

Selinda Explorers Camp

Selinda Reserve

We couldn’t believe it. The food, the comfort, the environment, Ratti our guide. Five stars aren’t enough.

Guest tent at Machaba Camp

Machaba Camp

Okavango Delta

Having elephants, hippos and other wildlife on your doorstep is an incredible experience. Having grown up with a lifetime of BBC documentaries I couldn’t believe how much we saw and how great our guide, Kitso, was at finding what was most interesting to us.

Camp Kalahari pool area

Camp Kalahari

Botswana

We didn’t think it was possible our third camp could match the experience of the first two, but Camp Kalahari was maybe our favorite. Every day was an incredible new experience.
