Tribes Overall:

Exceeded our expectations.

Tribes Service:

Our coordinator Alex listened and understood what we wanted and delivered exactly the holiday we'd hoped for, thank you.

Guides:

All excellent to exceptional guides apart from the one at Basque de Paz.

Social & Environmental Responsibility:

Costa Rican government and every person there seems to have a real feel for conservation and wildlife . We felt tourism was actually helping to protect and conserve the environment and wildlife.

The places you stayed

Rooftop of Hotel Presidente, San Jose, Costa Rica © Hotel Presidente

Hotel Presidente

San Jose

Not too far from airport, short stopover so didn't leave hotel ! Comfortable room. Lovely rooftop tapas bar with great views. Staff went out of their way to be helpful even giving us an adaptor. Breakfast was tasty and efficient.

Namuwoki Lodge chalet

Namuwoki Lodge

Costa Rica

Lovely lodge great sized detached room lots of wildlife on site, had a howler monkey in our hammock ! Food good for dinner. Nice little relaxing pool. Walking distance of 'Jaguar' rescue centre, just short walk to the beach. Quite a long way from main town, (not walking distance ). 20 minute drive to Cahuita National Park. Great first stop and introduction to Caribbean Costa Rica!

Mawamba Lodge

Mawamba Lodge

Costa Rica

Arrive by boat ! Great buffet style meals with good selection. Basic room. Massive gardens with lots of different areas, could always find a quiet area around pool on beach or hammocks on dock! There are large Iguana wandering around! We did the garden tour with the guide very good defiantly recommend very informative. Butterfly and frog enclosures. Quite a large lodge, put onto shared table for all meals , which worked out fine for us.

Believe we had the best room 44 (45 next door as good) furthest from road and reception but over looking the river with chairs outside, beautiful. Covered walkways give access to all parts (useful in a rain forest !)The ethos of the lodge is very strong in conservation and awareness . They have a separate area for bringing local children and women in to show them the importance of their environment. Had a brilliant guide Ronald we did a night walk and early morning bird walk both were unbelievable he was so passionate about his work and extremely knowledgeable. The included food was quite poor we paid to eat in their Italian restaurant which had a lovely ambience as well as food .

Bosque de Paz, Costa Rica © Bosque de Paz

Bosque de Paz

Between San Jose and Arenal

Beautiful remote location in the cloud forest. Rained a lot , and temperatures much lower. Unfortunately there are no drying or heating facilities so everything left damp! There are good private trails you can take yourself on. Owners very friendly and lovely food , go for all inclusive as there is nowhere else to eat ! Feeders out for hummingbirds so you do see them (this may change in the future). Guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic but a little difficult to understand .

This is amazing ! We flew down and the flight was so scenic would have booked as an excursion ! Once off the plane , rough track ride then a small boat, there is no dock so really need your shorts and swim shoes ! Then a tractor up to lodge, but its worth it. Massive room beautifully appointed and outside shower ! 2 swimming pools one freshwater in the forest , watched monkeys from my sunbed! Sunset bar, where I saw the best sunset of my life. Restaurant, service, bar and food all excellent. The staff were lovely. Our guide Manfred gave us a guided walk and trip to the Island . The island trip with him was one of the holiday highlights. It was to snorkel as the fish and coral are excellent , I was very uncertain (scared ) Manfred was so patient and without holding any of the others back actually pulled me along so I could share and see everything, was out there for ages so amazing so professional , knowledgeable and experienced. Our boat man Jason spotted Whales and dolphins so quick jump back in boat for close ups! Wished we'd had more than 3 nights.

Parador Resort and Spa

Manuel Antonio

Perfect spot to end our holiday! Couple of swimming pools , one with swim up bar ,10 minute walk to a beautiful beach (watch out tide comes in a long way!) Our room overlooked trees with sea glimpses .Clean modern rooms. Only one restaurant in the evening but food and staff very good. Short $10 taxi ride into town with selection of bars and restaurants. National park at Manuel Antonio is much busier than the others but with our guide saw some amazing wildlife we hadn't seen all holiday. We opted not to swim there so did longer looking at wildlife.
