The wildlife in Tortuguero, for me especially the frogs that we saw there. The sounds of the jungle in the morning, with the monkeys, frogs and birds... The bird variety at Selva Lodge. The night time walk in the primary forest. The luxury of Il Silencio after the lodge accommodation! The beauty of the sunset across Jaco Beach. The special place of Corcovado, a must for anyone. I was expecting the wildlife to be the highlight here but the beauty of the remoteness and surrounding area made it special. The Costa Rican hospitality and welcome will live long in the memory.
The holiday was all we hoped for and more. We went for the wildlife and were not disappointed. The accommodation was excellent and the mix of resorts showed us the biodiversity of Costa Rica and made the holiday seem so long!!
The timetable was adhered to and we were never let down.
A holiday of a lifetime for us both.
What can I say! Alex as a Tribes representative gave us advice and encouragement and was always there to answer questions. The fact that we had such a good time was down in no small part to his skill and guidance. I had an input in some of the locations but I was very impressed by your service.
Julio in Tortuguero was very good and helpful.
Randy and Melanie in Selva Lodge were excellent.
All drivers were excellent with special mention to Ronal who drove us from Silencio to Jaco Beach for local commentary and history on 4 hour trip. His English was v good.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
Costa Rica is renowned for this and we saw many examples of how the environment and wildlife is looked after. I do not think anyone in Costa Rica leads a rich life in terms of income, but they are a happy race of people who pride themselves on their environment.
The places you stayed
Very good accommodation for first night. Room serviceable but basic, breakfast very good. Very central for main activities.
Would not wish to stay here again for end of hols as San Jose not our favourite place - lots of begging and people sleeping rough. Went to Gold Museum but think I would prefer to stay just outside on return if we went again. Fine for first night though.
Tortuguero National Park
A lovely environment to be in and good setting. Accommodation very unique and great for sound of wildlife all around. Food OK. Guide very good. Excursions very enjoyable. Our guide added in for free a short trip at night to see frogs which we did.
Due to heavy rain we declined the bungalow in favour of room nearer activities and restaurant. The bungalows are quite a walk uphill from main building and across a busy road. Think it would be good to ask clients in advance what they would prefer. The room was quite basic and probably not as nice as bungalow, but the proximity made it preferable. Guides were excellent here and bird watching feeder attracted a lot of birds including toucans.
Corcovado, Osa Peninsula
A beautiful location and unspoilt. The 2 hour boat trip was more like a 2 hour speed boat adrenaline hit and not for those that do not like boats!! The hike was just about achievable as it was 100 degrees and so humid! The snorkeling was good although we were one of about 5 boats at the island. Food and accommodation of a very high standard. A must for a visit to Costa Rica!
