Holiday review by Mrs. Helen Jackson

We loved every aspect off our holiday. Whilst being keen birders, we knew we would see a lot of new birds but we loved both our night tours; full of creepy crawlies, some dangerous beasties and the sounds of the jungle at night. A good range of mammals too; managed to see all four species of monkey plus mammals never hard of before. Being classed as a 'panic swimmer', I loved the opportunity to snorkel, in relative safety, over some fantastic reefs and view marine life which I have never seen before.

Tribes Overall:

A wonderful tailor made holiday for our first time in Costa Rica. Each lodge and resort supported different aspects of our interest. All parts lived up to our expectations and aspects exceeded it!

Tribes Service:

Alex helped create a wonderful tailor made holiday for us, fully satisfying our needs and allowing us to have new experiences in a country new to us. A last minute opportunity to fly down to Torteguero, rather than face roadworks on an already long journey proved to be exactly the right choice. (we gather, other companies only told their clients on the day of the roadtrip). For us, an extension at the end of the holiday to relax from our busy schedule was spot on!

Guides:

Our guide allocated to us at Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge was outstanding and we felt fortunate to be with him for the three days we were there. A naturally gifted leader with immense knowledge and superb communication. We were lucky to have him as our private guide for our evening night walk and early birding. But, he was a good group walk leader too, ever vigilant to the group's needs. As an inexperienced and apprehensive snorkeller, he helped subdue my fears and I have now seen marine life, never observed before. Thank you Manfred, you rate as one of our best guides we have met in our well-travelled life.

Social & Environmental Responsibility:

Costa Rica has high aims in terms of its social and environmental responsibility; we applaud the ambition. Some lodges fully embraced sustainability and environmental protection. Others promoted aspects and, over time, with direction from their government will hopefully meet these aims. Our country needs to do the same!

A good stopover with lovely food at the restaurant. We arrived later than expected and had an early departure, and chose not to leave the hotel at night, but the opportunity was there. Very helpful staff. Loved the mix of old and new artwork.

Arriving much earlier than the rest of the group (we had flown down from San Jose rather than take the road), we benefitted from good personal service. Thank you. Trips were well organised and it was a good introduction to our holiday.

We managed a birds before breakfast, with the very energetic Mario, before the dry season came to an abrupt halt! We squeezed in a short walk in the orchid garden... wow, some the orchids are tiny! Loved the easy access of mammals and the moths in wonderful numbers on a cold night. Fabulous staff.

What a wonderful experience. A stunning arrival by plane and boat. The grounds are superb. We felt blessed to be teamed up with our wonderful guide, Manfred (see earlier comments). The highlight was our night walk, but the waterfall walk, birds before breakfast and snorkelling were all excellent. Lovely staff, good food and good cocktails.

A decision to extend our holiday by a few days was well worth it! Thank you for the free upgrade to a wonderful room. All staff were wonderful; loved the towel art! Evening food in the restaurant was classy. The self-guided walks proved fruitful. The local bay was a safe swimming and snorkelling spot. Manuel Antonio park produced close up views of animals with Nancy, a very bubbly and knowledgeable guide. We enjoyed eating out too; with good restaurants at 'plaza vista'.
