The people of Costa Rica are warm and friendly and go out of their way to be helpful and are extremely proud of their country. The wildlife viewing is second to none. The thrill of seeing a tapir, who could not tell the time, eating at the river bank one morning and then swimming to other side was amazing - even our guide was excited!
We went for the wildlife and it surpassed all expectations!
Our first guide Brian was knowledgeable but distant and did not engage with the group. Other guides were excellent, especially Allen in Manuel Antonio and Manuel in Drakes Wilderness lodge.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
This is a country with ecotourism at the heart of its economy and it shows. Where else is absolutely no building or agriculture allowed inside national parks?
The places you stayed
Good location and wildlife. Food very disappointing; it was identical every day. There are no feeders in the grounds to attract the birds. Ok but would not return.
This was our favourite place. Your info told us it was boutique with gourmet food!!!!!! It most certainly was not. The rooms are basic with no heating for the cold nights and the food is wholesome home cooking with no choice other than take it or leave it. However, the peaceful, magical setting in beautiful grounds teeming with birds and other wildlife make it a very special experience.
A busy family resort hotel. We moved room as our original was right next to the children's pool and restaurant. Great views over the ocean and very helpful staff. Not the hotel for you if you like to get away from it all. Close to some excellent restaurants for dinner eg Cubre Libre for seafood.
