We loved going to the National Parks with the excellent guides: seeing the animals, birds and reptiles in their habitat and learning about them and their importance to the ecosystem. We enjoyed a few days on Potrero Beach. We loved walking along it in the morning and watching the tuna chasing the whitebait schools and then watching the fishermen and the pelicans trying to catch the fish. We really enjoyed the National, Jade and Gold museums in San Jose.. We enjoyed the variety of cuisines available, but most of all the typical casados in a soda.
We really enjoyed the holiday, particularly the National Parks. We travelled through most of the geographic zones and saw most of the North of the Country from Caribbean to Pacific. The country was lovely and the people were warm and friendly. We enjoyed the guided tours, seeing the animals, birds and reptiles in their particular habitats and learning about them.
We felt that Rory was knowledgeable and professional. He engaged well and responded promptly to queries or requests. We felt that the tour was well balanced and we had enough time to see each place and have enough time to organize our own trips. All the transfers were on time and there were no problems. Rory organised trips to a Coffee and a Chocolate producer, which were both very interesting.
Generally, we felt that the guides were very good. Some were better than others. I speak Spanish and I noted that one of the guides did not say the same information in English and Spanish. Apart from that, most of the guides in the National Parks were very competent and professional and knew their subject matter.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
It was clear that you, your subcontractors and the guides took their social and environmental responsibilities seriously. Clearly, given the popularity of Costa Rica as a tourist destination, that is a delicate balance.
The places you stayed
Located close to all the sites in San Jose. Its proximity allowed us to see all the most important sites. Most evenings we ate outside on the rooftop bar, which had a nice atmosphere and a very good standard of food and drink.
Although the accommodation was spartan, we enjoyed the feeling of closeness to the rainforest: seeing and hearing the animals and birds around us. The bar over the canalway was a great place to watch wildlife and see the sunset.
Loved both front and back balconies and the mature gardens. The latter had a view of the Volcano. Saw lots of animals and birds. Loved the new restaurant. The food and drink in the hotel was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Went for a walk on their own private trail . The hotel is located outside the town of La Fortuna, so we asked to be dropped off in town on return from the tours and took a taxi back.
A room with a view over the large and beautiful gardens. Saw lots of animals and birds in the grounds of the hotel. The hotel is located close to the National Park, so we just walked up there on our own. The food and drink in the hotel was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the atmosphere in the small restaurant. The nearest town was Santa Elena so we asked to be dropped off there on return from tours and took a taxi back.
Playa Potrero, Guanacaste
The hotel was well located on the beach with mature gardens, stunning views and great sunsets. Although it was high season, the beach in front of the hotel was empty most of the time. The food and drink in the hotel was good and the staff friendly and helpful. There were also other restaurants and bars within walking distance.
