From the time we arrived in San Jose until we left we had a wonderful and very interesting holiday. This was our first time in South America and I would definitely recommend Costa Rica. Lots of fun and adventures - we laughed a lot but don't go expecting it to be like home from home.
From the original booking Tribes have kept us updated and itinerary was updated as and when things changed. Would definitely book with them again as nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
All of our drivers were very polite and friendly. Some even went so far as to stop and allow us to cross the crocodile bridge to take photos on route from Bosque de Paz to Parador Resort. David can speak some Spanish so this encouraged all the drivers to converse with him about our two countries. The tour guides were locals who knew where to find different species of animals, birds and reptiles of which they were all very knowledgeable.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
Everybody seemed to be very friendly and they appeared to be concerned about conservation and the environment. As we were only there two weeks it is hard to assess whether they all feel that way regarding their environment but I would like to think they did.
The places you stayed
Staff were superb. Unfortunately due to time of year (rainy season) it was very quiet (which we loved). Room was good and all the amenities were as described.
Tortuguero National Park
Loved the cabin and especially the flyscreens instead of window panes, not too sure about howler monkeys at 0330 in the morning in the middle of a thunderstorm. Good choice of food and the tours we did from here were excellent.
Yhis was more of a hotel as opposed to the lodges we had been stying in. Staff extremely attentive and choice of menu. Guiselle, the bartender in a very quiet bar was always pleased to see us and she was very friendly and chatty.
