We had a fabulous holiday in Costa Rica. It was a great mixture of excitement and relaxation. We loved seeing wildlife in its habitat and the variety of geography and biodiversity within the country. The people were lovely and were keen to make sure we had the best experiences we could, guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Seeing turtles nesting and white water rafting were particular highlights, as was a self guided hike in the Santa Elena cloud forest, very Jurassic Park, and the hummingbird gallery at Monteverde. Also love the volcanic hot springs...sitting in the hot water in the dark, jungle foliage around and watching the stars.....The quality and location of the hotels we stayed in was perfect for us; both Los Lomas de Volcan and Monteverde lodge and gardens were within walking distance of a range of restaurants which meant that we were able to experience a variety of Costa Rican cuisine without being confined to the hotel menu, a great choice for us so thankyou Rory! Loved seeing Arsenal volcano without cloud cover and fire flies at night. Would thoroughly recommend Tribes and Costa Rica to anyone wanting an adventure in style!
All the travel arrangements, accommodation, guides, activities arranged by Tribes were excellent! We had a fantastic time!
Everything was excellent, I’d thoroughly recommend Tribes to anyone and wouldn’t hesitate to book further travels with Tribes. The in country partner Swiss Travel were also excellent.
The level of knowledge displayed by the guides about their subjects was excellent. Their willingness to share knowledge and information was infectious and the command of English was humbling! The love of their country shone through and everyone we met was kind, helpful and enthusiastic.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
The role and value of tourism to the national economy of Costa Rica is appreciated by the people and consequently they were welcoming and appreciative. One thing we particularly found refreshing was that there was never any pressure to tip ( we did as we felt we wanted to) or to buy goods or services from “ pushy” purveyors of tourist tat! Tribes ethical commitments are clearly demonstrated on the website and travel materials.
The places you stayed
Good location for exploring San Jose, very central. Clean and interesting communal areas. Didn’t eat in the restaurant as went out, but breakfast was excellent, buffet with great choice to suit any palate. Ate at The Patio restaurant opposite the hotel and would recommend.
Loved staying in the bungalow in the rainforest. Only comment is that meal times were fixed and if you didn’t show up pretty promptly the dining room was deserted and staff were waiting to clear up! This is just a minor niggle and shouldn’t be used to put people off as we had an amazing time! Adored sitting on the veranda in my rocking chair watching the monkeys, lightning, deluge- it was brilliant!
Had a beautiful bungalow on the edge of the grounds with an uninterrupted view of the volcano! Amazing! Lovely setting. We were able to walk into town, others may find the walk a little strenuous, however taxis were cheap and readily available. Great steak restaurant on outskirts of La Fortuna - La gara Pata. Excellent breakfast at hotel, restaurant menu very European. Hotel jacuzzi was lovely after a busy day!
Beautiful setting, loved the butterfly garden and location was excellent. Quality of breakfast was great and better for the waistline than buffet!
