Loved the Wildlife and diversity of environment within Costa Rica, mixed with a sprinkle of adventure and extreme activity it made for an unforgettable experience
Costa Rica was amazing, the accommodation and included activities were all great, the Wildlife was superb. So many places exceed expectations, Only disappointment was Evergreen Lodge in Tortugero which was just over commercial and not focused on wildlife, but Tortugero itself was great place. As expected we did encounter some heavy rain, but it we went in July and August, which is the rainy season and we were in the rain forest, it did not cause us an issue :-)
Experience of booking with Tribes was very good, easy and flexible, tailoring things to our need and budget.
The Guides were all very good and knowledgeable, transfers and pickup for activities all happened on time.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
You got the feeling that most of the hotels and lodges were doing there best ot balance tourism with environmental and ecological sensitivity
The places you stayed
Very pleasant functional city hotel, did the job for a short 1 night stay after landing later afternoon in San Jose
Hotel was very nice, but given where we were, Tortugero, which is one of the key Wildlife spots in Costa Rica I did feel that they failed to leverage the maximum opportunity to take guests on boat safaris, they were very keen to up sell additional tours though. The included hike in the jungle was a very disappointing 50 minute walk round a concrete pth at back of sister hotel. Overall I think there are probably better hotels for eco/wildlife experience in Tortugero, its an amazing place but this hotel felt like mass tourism masquerading as eco tourism. Disappointing but we did see Caimen, Armadillo, Toucan, Basilisk Lizards, Capuchin Monkey, Poison Dart Frog and Green tree frog, just got the feeling we could have seen more if we had been in another lodge.
Lovely hotel, are room 510 had uninterrupted view of Volcano, just brilliant. Loved the Sky try Zip line, and also the Vocano walk and hot springs at EcoTermales were great. Hotel has very nice pool and hot tub. So many thing to do in La Fortuna you could easly stay here for quite a few days.
Very nice hotel, but prehaps a bit isolted for familes from Monteverde town, meant you could not easily go out on evening, unless you have your own car, its a good 10 minute drive out of town. On the Plus side just a 15 minute walk from Monteverde reserve entrance and cafe with Humming Birds everywhere. Food in hotel was nice, as expected it was cooler here so a long sleeve shirt doe not go amiss. Totally recommend to do the Superman Zip lines and Tarzan Swing at 100% Adventura, extreme but amazing, Also the Hanging bridges tour at Selvatura was great we got to see a Tarantula and had a very good guide.
Just what you need after nearly two weeks of Touring round costs Rica, lovely place, almost deserted beach, very nice pool and food. A few good restaurants in walking distance, including Castillo which is next door. Nice wildlife in grounds including Bats, iguanas, birds, plus we saw baby manta rays swimming in the Pacific Surf. Great place. Amazing sunsets over Pacific Ocean.
