The Mandela foundation in J'berg has a small exhibition with personal items such as letters from him in prison as well as the opportunity to see his office post Presidency. Spending time in the Bush and the mix of the constant stream of the smaller animals and birds with the iconic views - Leopard with Impala up a tree, Leopard stalking an Impala (unsuccessfully), Leopard stalking a Guineafowl (successfully), one astonishing drive that mixed Lion, Leopard kill, baby Rhino, and then two Leopard females vying for the male. The way in which he rangers went out of their way to ensure we had good experiences. Watching the rugby with the Inyati staff - despite SA losing badly !
Tribes Overall:
All the arrangements worked smoothly, all the accomodation was excellent, warm welcoming staff everywhere, interesting and powerful political history in J'berg and amazing game drives in Kruger.
Tribes Service:
Extremely efficient and delivered exactly as planned.
The new app was helpful and clear
Didn't need it but good to have the local numbers in case of delays etc.
Guides:
Knowledgable and helpful guide called Life in J'berg. Soweto born, so knew the political history and area well. Kind and helpful in adding a few extras - like Mandela's house in Houghton.
All three rangers in the lodges - Kyle in Simbavati, Darren and Matt in Inyati, were passionate, knowledgable and patient, making sure we all had great views and experiences. Trackers were all skilled and identified animals we would never have seen otherwise.
All staff in hotels, lodges were unfailingly helpful and welcoming
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
Good that there were staff from all backgrounds in every location.
Passion for wildlife evident throughout - even the waiter on the boat on the Zambezi knew every bird we saw.
