It was all amazing. Guides went out of their way to try and find as full a range of wildlife as possible. In Amazon they take pics with your phone through a telescope and found us a sloth to capture (digitally not actually!).
Loved both the Amazon and Galapagos.
Organisation, accommodation, guides all superb.
Estoban in Quito, Rene and Paton in Amazon and Morris on Ocean Spray all very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
Hope that by staying in Amazon lodge owned and run by the local community and by sailing on Ocean Spray in Galapagos owned by local family with local crew, we did in some way contribute to the local economy while having a fabulous time.
The places you stayed
Great to have a native guide as well as the bilingual guide. Pato and Rene were amazing at spotting things. Nice touch to have guide eat with your group.
We were in a group of six including ourselves which we thought was just the right size, possibly better than a private guide for two as we learned a lot from the questions that other people in the group asked.
Food included Ecuadorian specialties, not the usual ubiquitous international food which was a nice surprise.
Very friendly staff who did all they could to make us feel special.
Great food, lovely accommodation. Eating barbecued prawns for lunch on deck was a particular food highlight.
Thought we might get a bit bored spending 8 days on a boat but we went hiking, kayaking, snorkeling and on dinghy rides with three full activities a day - never a dull moment. And they greet you with warm towels when you get back on board after snorkeling!
Loved the towel sculptures left on the bed when they changed the room towels - penguins wearing sunglasses the best.
