Waiting on the jetty for the boat back to the Cristalino reserve, my guide suddenly pointed out a tamandua (anteater) walking down the road. It wandered past an old trailer and then walked into the trees. Evidently this was the first time one of these had been seen there or at least reported.
Although seeing the jaguars, river otters,10 tapirs in one day and many different birds was really special, it was amazing to see a yellow anaconda climbing out of the river up a bank and into a hole. Although its tail was still visible, it managed to hide the rest of its body. It probably thought we couldn't see it!!
The holiday was well organised and was one of the best I have had.
Paul was very knowledgeable, especially as I changed the itinerary and he sorted out my stay in Rio in a lovely hotel in Santa Teresa. All the information I received was very comprehensive.
Both guides were really brilliant. They could both hear and see birds and animals that I would never have spotted. Our guide in the Cristalino reserve was especially informative, especially about bird life. Our guide in the Pantanal had worked in a zoo in Peru and was also very knowledgeable. Both were very friendly.
Social & Environmental Responsibility:
The environment of the Cristalino lodge had been carefully developed and the accommodation had been designed to limit its impact, despite being of a very high quality. The reserve owner is a really dedicated person who has worked hard to ensure the rainforest will be sustained.
The places you stayed
This was brilliant. Very good hospitality from all the staff and the owner who was always around and talking to guests. Accommodation was a very high standard and the food was excellent.
The accommodation was good and the food was ok. The staff were helpful.
The staff and food were really good. The accommodation was a bit Spartan but I had expected this. The room partitions were paper thin and only acted to separate the rooms. You might as well have all been in the same room for sound!
