Moremi Game Reserve
Moremi Game Reserve is the beating heart of Botswana’s wildlife-rich Okavango Delta.
Our trip was packed full of exceptional wildlife experiences. We had regular sightings of lion, leopard and wild dog as well as a couple of sightings of cheetah and of some of the rarer antelope, roan, sable and eland.
Whether you visit Moremi Game Reserve or the wider Okavango Delta on safari in Botswana you’re going to see incredible wildlife. Moremi was the part of the Delta first protected – by local residents. It’s more about land-based safaris than water-based, with Chief’s Island being the largest landmass amongst the waterways of the Delta. Mopane forest covers about a quarter of the reserve. Moremi is also a ‘big five’ destination now that rhinos have been reintroduced here (though the chance of seeing one is still slight).
Since it is a public reserve, no night drives, walks or off-roading are allowed here. However, you will find some incredible luxury lodges here which offer excellent guiding and top-end accommodation and experiences, such as Chief’s Camp, Camp Okuti, Xakanaxa Camp, or one of the most expensive camps in Africa, Mombo Camp. Don’t worry, though, you can also come here on a mobile safari too, so you don’t have to be super-rich to visit this reserve.
