Arrive in Dar then fly to Selous
Your African adventure starts as soon as you land in Dar es Salaam. (We've assumed an early morning arrival for this description). You are met by our local partner and transferred the short distance to the domestic terminal, where you board a light plane to Selous. So your first sight of Africa is from the skies, and how gorgeous it looks from this perspective. Your guide will be waiting at the airstrip and he'll whisk you away to camp so you can settle in and being to take in home from home for the next few days.
On safari in Selous
This morning you will be awoken early for a game drive and an exciting introduction to the Selous that will open your eyes to the African bush. As you drive around, enjoy the smell of the earth and the plants. Return to camp for a late breakfast, you can relax at the lodge until lunch, then you head off on safari again. Your guide will aim to find some of the many exciting species which live here, so you'll hopefully spot elephants, antelopes, zebras, buffalo, lions, hyenas, and more.
On safari in Selous, and meet local Maasai
After breakfast head of into the bush on foot with a knowledgeable guide. You will be focusing on the smaller things, it's an exciting way to spend time in the African wilderness. Returning to the lodge for lunch, this afternoon you will be taken on a fascinating visit to meet a friend of the lodge, a Maasai chief called Saita. This is a very non-commercial experience, so it's a lovely and relaxed way to find out a bit about the Maasai culture and way of life in this region.
On safari in Selous
An exciting day of adventure is in store. You'll leave camp early, and take your breakfast and lunch with you. It starts with a game drive in the park and then you'll take a boat safari on Lake Tagalala too. Selous is known for its rivers and lakes, and it's great to have a boat safari for a different way of enjoying the wildlife. This will be a fabulous day in the wilderness of Selous.
Today you will fly over to the island of Zanzibar, arriving by late morning A driver will transfer you to your beach resort in time for a late lunch. The Zanzibari is in the north of the island and is a great place to chill out.
Days 6 - 8
You have three full days to relax on the beach or by the pool, or perhaps to explore the neighbouring village of Nungwi. If you want pampering, a range of spa treatments are available, and you could also consider the yoga or reiki. For the more active, try snorkelling or kayaking perhaps, and there is a PADI dive centre close by.
Stone Town, Zanzibar
This morning you will be collected after breakfast and driven the the main island town of Stone Town. On the way, you will experience a Spice Tour to see one of the things that the islands are famed for. Your simple hotel, the Dhow Palace, is centrally-located in the old town, so it's a good place from which to explore the narrow streets, shops and markets. You have the afternoon free.
Visit Stone Town then head for home.
Today is your last day, and depending on your flight time, another day to explore the old town. Look out for the colourful tinga tinga paintings, and it's a good place for antiques. If you like, we can arrange a trip into Jozani Forest to see the endemic red colobus monkeys, or maybe you'd like a marine boat trip to try to see dolphins. There are some great restaurants to eat in here too, so all in all your last day in Tanzania should be memorable. Whatever time your flight, you will be taken to the airport in time for your journey home.
