

Day 1
Arrive Rio de Janeiro
Arrive at Rio de Janeiro airport, where you will bet met and transferred to your hotel at Ipanema Beach. The rest of the day is free for you to relax. The hotel has a rooftop pool, bar and restaurant so you can opt to stay here if you wish or head straight down to the trendy beach. The hotel is well placed for exploring some of the well known city spots.

Day 2
Rio de Janeiro Tour
Today you have a full day city tour, taking in such highlights as the Corcovado and Sugarloaf Mountain, from both of which you will see stunning views of the city and its 37 beaches. You will also get an overview of colonial, imperial and republican Rio taking in buildings and monuments from all eras. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 3
In Rio de Janeiro
A free day to explore this exciting city. You can continue the sightseeing from yesterday, or perhaps visit the beach, for many visitors one of the highlights, Ipanema and Leblon are two of the most attractive. Alternatively, take it easy, maybe sample some of the local cuisine at one of the many cafes or restaurants, or do some shopping.

Day 4
To Manaus
Today you take a flight to Manaus, gateway to the Brazilian Amazon. Check in to your city hotel in central Manaus, next to the opera house. The rest of the day is at leisure. Relax by the pool, sample a drink from the pool bar, or, if feeling more energetic then head for the gym. When hunger strikes you the bistro is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving both classic and contemporary cuisine, or you could head out the door to one of the many local restaurants and cafes.

Day 5
Manaus Tour
You have a morning city tour, which is sure to include a visit to the opulent Baroque opera house (Teatro Amazonas) completed in 1896 at the height of the rubber boom. The afternoon is free for you to spend at leisure. If you want to explore further afield you can hire a bicycle or explore Manaus on foot.

Day 6
On Board The Tucano
Today you leave Manaus and board the Motor Yacht Tucano, your base for the next seven days. Depart upstream on the Rio Negro, cruising through the world's largest river island system, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Tucano is an elegant Amazon riverboat with three decks and ample space for guests both inside and out. The main salon is surrounded by large picture windows and a large balcony. The observation deck has an open sun deck plus a canopy area providing shade.

Day 7
On The Tucano
Continue the cruise upstream exploring the Rio Negro and its tributaries. This cruise is informative and active, with several excursions off the boat every day. Each morning you walk in the forest in small groups. Excursions are led by Tucano's resident naturalists and can be easy walks or moderately strenuous hikes. Of course, you are more than welcome to remain on board and enjoy the facilities and air conditioned comforts whenever you wish.

Day 8
On The Tucano
The cruise continues its progress upstream, with further opportunities for forest walks. On board, you enjoy delicious food served in the salon, watch the ever-changing scenery, browse through Amazon wildlife reference books in the wood panelled salon and take the chance to go for a swim in the river from the main deck.

Day 9
On The Tucano
Continue upstream to the Rio Jauaperi. Here you will see a kind of forest known as the varzea and have the chance to scout along the shoreline for some of the wildlife found only in this unique environment.

Day 10
On The Tucano
Begin travelling downstream and explore different Rio Negro habitats. In the daytime you'll continue to venture out in the launches and walk in the forest, and at night, weather permitting, there may be a chance to search for nocturnal wildlife. Activities are interspersed with fine meals and time to unwind on board, enjoying views from the balconies or decks and chatting with other passengers.

Day 11
On The Tucano
A dawn excursion seeking out wildlife is followed by a full Brazilian breakfast. Later you travel to the 'Meeting of the Waters', a 6km stretch of water where two of the world's largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom, the dark water of the Negro running beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon. This phenomenon is caused by the differences in speed, water density and temperatures of the two rivers and is a striking sight. At sunset the boat will head upstream on the Rio Negro and anchor overnight just north of Manaus. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening and prepare for an early morning departure tomorrow.

Day 12
To Manaus Airport
Disembark from the MY Tucano after breakfast and transfer to Manaus airport for onward connections, where the holiday ends.
