Day 11

On The Tucano

A dawn excursion seeking out wildlife is followed by a full Brazilian breakfast. Later you travel to the 'Meeting of the Waters', a 6km stretch of water where two of the world's largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom, the dark water of the Negro running beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon. This phenomenon is caused by the differences in speed, water density and temperatures of the two rivers and is a striking sight. At sunset the boat will head upstream on the Rio Negro and anchor overnight just north of Manaus. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening and prepare for an early morning departure tomorrow.
