Day 1
Arrive Sao Luis De Maranhao
On arrival at Sao Luis airport, you are met by our representative and transferred to Hotel Luzeiros Sao Luis. Get your bearings and check out the hotel facilities. You are free to explore the city at your leisure as the rest of the day has been kept free for you to take things at your own pace.
Day 2
Lencois Maranhenses Lagoa Azul
After breakfast and a good night's rest you set off for Barreirinhas. It's about a four hour journey broken up with a stop in Morros where you can buy refreshments. After checking in to your hotel, there's no time to waste and the 4 x 4 vehicle collects you, bound for Lencois Maranhenses and the Lagoa Azul Circuit. The park is vast with hundreds of lagoons, and thousands of sand dunes - an amazing sight. Take advantage of the cooling waters as you swim in one of the lagoons. Later in the afternoon you return to Berreirinhas where you have the rest of the evening to yourself.

Day 3
Rio Preguicas, Dunes And Beach
An early start today as you have an 8am transfer via speedboat on the Rio Preguicas. Highlights of the journey include a stop at Vassouras where you can walk through the dunes and see the local wildlife that inhabits the mangroves. Climb the lighthouse at Madacaru, a fishing village. At the top you have wonderful 360 degree vistas over the local area. The trip continues to Cabure beach, where you can buy lunch at a local restaurant, then walk it off along the beach. Afterwards you return to Barreirinhas for the evening.

Day 4
Parnaiba
After breakfast you depart for Parnaiba. First passing through an area of natural beauty and more small lagoons, this area is known as the Pequenos (small) Lencois. You'll visit Tutoia and at Tatus board the boat and explore the Parnaiba Delta from the water. There'll be a lunch stop along the way. You'll visit the dunes east of Feijao Bravo, or Angry Bean, it's an opportunity to take a swim. At around 17:30 you can watch the flight of the scarlet ibis as they find their nightly roosting spot. Afterwards you'll be taken to your hotel. You can spend the evening exploring the historic city centre at your leisure.

Day 5
Parnaiba to Barra Grande
You'll be moving on to Barra Grande today, but first you have a restful morning to enjoy the stunning scenery. Travelling by 4 x 4 you'll pass by the Arvore Penteada or Jaguar Tree, driving along the coast of Piaui. There will be a lunch stop along the way at a local beach restaurant in Luis Correa. You'll arrive in the small village of Barra Grande at around 15:00. The rest of the day is for relaxation. Enjoy the beach and take your pick of the many restaurants for dinner before getting a good night's sleep at your Pousada.

Day 6
Barra Grande
Following a leisurely breakfast you set off for Chaval, also known as City of Stones. A guided walk through the park which houses cave paintings dating back thousands of years makes for an interesting stop. You'll also make a stop at the carnauba stone, one of the highest monoliths in the park. After a lunch stop, take the opportunity for a dip in a natural pool carved into the rocks. Then, on the way back to the village you'll stop off at a handmake salt mine that forms part of the local economy.

Day 7
Drive to Camocim
This morning you are driven to Camocim. Along the way you will pass through Cajueiro da Paraia, home to the world's largest cashew tree. Swapping the road for the water, you'll float down the Timonha River in search of manatees. There will be a lunch stop on the island of shells. The boat trip ends at Pontal das Almas in Bitupita where you can visit the tomb of Santa Adelaide. The journey then continues by car until you arrive at Camocim late afternoon.

Camocim
Enjoy Camocim! You may wish to do little more than laze by the pool with a good book, If you want some exercise you can take to your feet and enjoy some walking, or take a bike ride and explore further afield. If you're looking for refreshments there are plenty of pavement cafés by the waterfront.

Day 9
Drive To Fortaleza
Today you continue along the coast to the city of Fortaleza, a journey of four hours or so, where you will be dropped at the airport. Your time on the exciting north coast has come to an end.
