Day 1

Arrive in Kigali

You are met at Kigali Airport and transferred downtown to Hotel des Mille Collines where you can rest after the flight. The hotel is something of a grande dame in Kigali being one of the city's oldest hotels and occupying a prime location. Facilities include a garden, outdoor swimming pool and top floor restaurant.

Day 2

City tour and transfer to Virungas

This morning you are taken on a tour of Kigali. The city has been Rwanda's capital since its independence in 1962. You are taken to the Kandt Museum, enjoy a tour old Kigali, visit the craft centres and the genocide memorial site. Kigali and Rwanda, are very much looking forward now and it is a positive and vibrant place. On conclusion of the tour you are driven to the foothills of the Virunga Mountains and Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge for a two-night stay. Enjoy the scenery during the drive and once you arrive.

Day 3

Gorilla Trek

It's an early start today to enable you to leave the lodge in good time to the Volcanoes National Park HQ to be allocated a gorilla trekking group. The sense of anticipation is palpable as you set off on the trek through the ancient forests. Once you locate the gorilla troop you have a precious hour to enjoy their company. Watch them go about their daily life: feeding, resting, playing, sorting out the kids... It's an utterly captivating experience and the memories should last long in your memory. Return to Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge to unwind and ponder all you've seen.

Day 4

Golden monkey trek and return to Kigali

You have another early wake-up and this time you're off to find the golden monkeys in the forest. It can take between two and four hours to find them and, as with the gorillas, you have an hour to watch them. By nature they are active and playful and leap among tree branches and on the forest floor, providing an entertaining and beguiling spectacle. After the trek you are transferred back to Kigali airport to check in for your onward flight. (Flight departures will be late afternoon or early evening due to transfer time back to Kigali).
