Day 1
Arrive Lima
On arrival at Lima you'll be met and transferred to your hotel in the arty neighbourhood of Barranco where you'll be spending two nights. The hotel has a bar and restaurant on site if you don't want to venture out but it is close to independent restaurants, bars and shops, so jump right in and start to explore this vibrant city.

Day 2
Lima city tour
This morning you'll have a tour of Peru's capital city. You'll see some of the fine architecture including the cathedral and presidential palace. There's a visit to the well-known Larco Museum, with its impressive displays of pre-Columbian art. These include a gold and silver gallery, chronological culture galleries and the famous collection of erotic pottery. After the tour you'll return to the hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 3
To the Sacred Valley
This morning you'll be transferred to the airport for the next part of your adventure. You'll take a flight to Cusco where a transfer awaits to whisk you off to the Sacred Valley. You'll be taken to your hotel in Ollantaytambo where you spend the next three nights. Take your time to settle in to your new surroundings.

Day 4
Pisac and the Sacred Valley
Breakfast at the hotel then your guide will meet you for a full day tour of the area. This fertile valley is still farmed much as it was in Inca times, with picturesque terracing. There are several towns and villages scattered through the valley where you'll see traditional crafts and customs. You'll visit Pisac, known for its colourful, bustling market and for the superb Inca ruins above the town. You'll also see the impressive Ollantaytambo ruins of an Inca fortress before ending the day back at Pakaritampu.

Day 5
Maras and Moray
Today you will be visiting Maras and Moray together with your guide. This will give you the opportunity explore these distinctive sites and observe the ingenuity of the Incas. The circular terraces of Moray are nothing short of impressive, your guide will share his insights into the cultural significance of the site. Then you continue on to salt terraces of Maras which is still in use today, producing salt on a small scale. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish.

Day 6
Train to Machu Picchu
Today you'll visit the world-famous site of Machu Picchu, travelling in style on a train with large, panoramic windows. From Aguas Calientes it's a short bus ride to the citadel of Machu Picchu. You'll have a comprehensive guided tour of the sanctuary and your guide will give you plenty of background information to really bring the site to life. Later head down the hill for lunch at Café Inkaterra before checking in at your hotel, El MaPi.

Day 7
From Machu Picchu to Cusco
This morning you have time for a return to Machu Picchu. You can take your time as you wander around the ruins, taking in the views and using your imagination to picture scenes of the busy Inca city in its heyday. In the afternoon you'll take the train back to Cusco. Sit back and enjoy the three-hour ride and those amazing views. On arrival you'll be transferred to your hotel in the San Blas neighbourhood.

Day 8
Tour of Cusco and Sacsayhuaman
After breakfast at the hotel you'll be collected for your tour of the city and nearby Inca sites. You'll visit the main square, cathedral and the Koricancha, which was the most important temple in Inca times. Heading out of the city you'll visit Sacsayhuaman, the former capital of the Inca empire, a huge complex of carefully constructed stone walls overlooking the modern city. At the end of the tour your guide will take you back to your hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 9
Titicaca train to Puno
After breakfast your guide will take you to the train station where you'll board the stylish Titicaca Train for the full day journey through the Andes to Puno. Along the way you'll be able to observe local communities and changing scenery, as you pass villages, mountains and wide plains. A three course lunch is included and is served in an elegant, Pullman-style dining car. The journey ends at Lake Titicaca, where you'll be met and transferred to the Casa Andina Premium Hotel, on the shores of the lake in Puno.

Day 10
Floating Islands of Uros and Taquile
Enjoy breakfast before heading out on a full day private tour of the lake. You will visit the floating islands of Uros and Taquile Island where you see a different culture and hear a different language, Quechua. The community here is prosperous and is known for its prowess in weaving. Unusually this craft is practiced by the men rather than the women. You'll have lunch in the main village square before travelling back across the lake to Puno, where you will spend the night in the Casa Andina Premium.

Day 11
Fly To Lima
After breakfast you'll check out of the hotel and set off on the 45-minute drive to Juliaca airport. The flight to Lima takes about an hour and 40 minutes. Here you'll be met and taken back to Barranca for your final night in Peru. Take the opportunity to revisit a favourite restaurant or explore something new.
