Day 1

Majete Wildife Reserve

Welcome to Malawi. You'll be met by our friendly representative at the airport in Blantyre and you'll be transferred by road to Majete Wildlife Reserve and your home for the next two nights on the banks of the Shire River. The spectacular location of this lodge lies at the confluence of two rivers. Relatively undiscovered by tourists you're in a beautiful wilderness area where you can enjoy your first introduction to the beautiful country that is Malawi.

Day 2

Majete Wildlife Reserve

Majete is a conservation success story and after a lot of hard work it is once again a Big 5 Reserve. As the wildlife has become more settled numbers are increasing as are the sightings. It's not just about the mammals, there are great bird sightings to be had too. Game drives are the best way to explore Majete, longer excursions are also offered, with a picnic lunch, so you can explore more of the reserve and maximise on your time here. Viewing hides offer the opportunity to get up close and personal with wildlife as it comes down to the waterhole to drink, a thrilling experience and the opportunity for some great photographs.

Day 3

Satemwa Tea Estate

A change of scene and a change of pace is in store. After a final activity in Majete you're whisked off to the beautiful Satemwa Tea Estates and your new home. You'll be spending two nights at Huntingdon House, a fine example of colonial architecture at the heart of the estate. Relax in splendour as you soak up the beautiful scenery with lush shades of green everywhere you look.

Day 4

Satemwa Tea EState

Today if you're feeling energetic you can take a hike up Mulanje Mountain where you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the end of the Rift Valley. While staying at Huntingdon House you could take advantage of a coffee tour or tea-tasting visit or take to two wheels and explore the estate by mountain bike or stroll at leisurely pace to one of the streams, and immerse yourself in this beautiful corner of the world. You set the pace!

Day 5

Transfer To Liwonde

Today takes you to Liwonde National Park You will spend the next two nights at Kuthengo, nestled amongst fever trees and baobabs, on the banks of the Shire River. The views from your spacious tent are amazing and you might be tempted to stay put but it's well worth exploring. You can of course enjoy safaris in a 4x4, but it's well worth enjoying a gentle boat safari on the river, giving another angle to your safari viewing. Walking is also on offer, you will be accompanied by knowledgeable guides and an armed National Park scout. This is safari on another level, your senses heightened, every snap of a twig will make your hairs stand on end. Back at Kuthengo, unwind with a G&T in hand.

Day 6 & 7

Liwonde

With Liwonde National Park on your doorstep another safari is on the cards today. Elephant, sable, waterbuck and reedbuck abound and sightings of zebra, eland, hippo and buffalo are common, so you're assured of great wildlife viewing. Your 4x4 game drive will take you into different areas of the park to observe contrasting habitats. You should keep your camera close to hand for those classic safari shots! Returning to the camp you can cool off with a swim in the pool and later enjoy dinner under the star-filled sky.

Day 8

Mumbo Island - Lake Malawi

It's time for another change of scene, Malawi has so much to offer. Following breakfast you'll be collected by your driver for the three to four hour drive to Cape Maclear. Your ultimate destination is Mumbo Island Camp. Mumbo Island is a pristine and deserted natural island, and the undisputed jewel of the Lake Malawi National Park. Here you can relax and enjoy a comfortable stay with unrivalled views of the lake from your simple and charming chalet and the open plan main areas. Leave all your cares behind with each sway of the hammock.

Day 9

Mumbo Island

Guests at Mumbo Island Camp have both the lake and the island to explore - water babies will be in their element! Snorkelling and diving are great ways to observe the abundant marine life of the lake or above the water you can try your hand at kayaking, wakebording. There are many lizards on the islands, from large monitor lizards to small colourful varieties. Listen to the haunting cry of the majestic Fish Eagle as they circle the huge boulders of the island hunting their prey! There are marked nature trails around the main island and some lovely lookout points. Whatever you choose by the end of the day you'll be ready for your sundowner!

Day 10

Nankoma Island - Lake Malawi

Today you'll move to another location on Lake Malawi - Blue Zebra Island Lodge on Nankoma Island where once again you can choose adventure or relaxation. Chill out by the pool, hike one of the nature trails, go birdwatching, snorkelling or sip on a cocktail as you watch the sunset. At an extra charge you could opt for some thrilling watersports such as wake-boarding, water-skiiing or banana-boating. If you prefer exploring under your own steam, kayaks are available for guest to take out onto the lake.

Days 11

Nankoma Island

By now you will have realised that Lake Malawi is a special place on earth. You've seen what's on offer here and you have another full day to enjoy more of what you love, whether that's swimming in the pool, snorkelling in the lake or bird watching - this is a good spot for African fish eagles in particular, you may be lucky enough to see one circling overhead before swooping down to catch its next meal in the clear waters of the lake.

Day 12

Depart

Enjoy your last breakfast, looking out over the lake, after which you'll be collected and taken back to the mainland for the three hour drive through the Malawi countryside to the airport in Lilongwe, where the holiday ends.
