Authentic Bolivia

This two-week holiday gives you the chance to explore the different and varied highlights of Bolivia. You can start off in Santa Cruz or La Paz from where you fly directly to Sucre, the judicial capital of Bolivia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site to boot. Having delved into the city's history you then head out for a day of contrast in the countryside, to visit Tarabuco, home to members of the Yampara ethnic group.

Next is Potosi, where they mine silver and other important minerals, before heading to the famous Uyuni Salt Flats, the largest in the world. This lunar type landscape is quite unique and truly breath-taking. There is a distinct 'other-worldly' feel about this place. You'll also see some of the colourful lakes in the area, and spot local wildlife which includes flocks of three types of flamingo, as well as alpacas and vicunas!

After the stark and desolate salt flats, it's time to head for the bright city lights of La Paz, where you take in the Witches' Market and see some of the rich cultural heritage this city has to offer. This is the perfect opportunity to buy locally made jewellery and brightly coloured fabrics made from alpaca wool. Then you travel on to Copacabana, (nothing like it's Brazilian name sake), a small town on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It's an area rich in evidence of Inca culture. After exploring the lake area it's back to La Paz. From here you visit Tiwanaku, one of Latin America's most famous historical sites and another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Steeped in history, this area was the capital of a powerful pre-Inca civilisation dating back between 400-900 AD. Your last night is spent in La Paz.
