Galapagos Islands holiday ideas experiences accommodation when to visit galapagos-islands map reviews

Holiday review by Mrs. Susan Toon

Date of trip: 11/10/2016
Number of people: 1
Country: Galapagos Islands

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "I expected a lot and was not disappointed. In fact everything was even better than I'd hoped it would be."
Tribes Service: "Paul could not have been better."
Guides: "The guides on the tours I did in Quito were mixed. I think the problem was due to the overwhelming number of Spanish speakers in the party and the guides, although they could speak English, gave far more information in Spanish. However, the tour to Cotopaxi was very enjoyable despite not being able to see the snow line! The guide was very well informed and helpful. The guide on the Galapagos tour was marvellous. He was so knowledgeable about everything we saw - birds. animals, sea life, volcanology, life on the islands and their history. He went out of his way to help and advise us."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "I presume the islands need tourism to help with the costs needed to try to restore them, especially with regard to the eradication of introduced species. We saw very few local people but the company we were with were clearly trying to minimise any adverse effects our visit might have on the environment. "

Our Memories

"I have travelled quite a lot over many years but have never had an experience like this before. The Galapagos are amazing - the landscape, the birds, the iguanas, the tortoises, the sea lions. As a single traveller, being on Tip Top II was great because we all ate together and went ashore together and I was always involved in whatever was going on. The fact that there was no TV, radio, newspapers or Wi-Fi meant that everyone talked and got to know one another- just like it used to be! Despite falling as I got into the panga, my fellow travellers and the crew did everything they could to help and I was still able to take part in the remaining landings, even if I did struggle a little. When looking for a seat when we finally made it to town, I was unlucky - every one was occupied by dozing sea lions! We were so excited when a pod of dolphins swam alongside the boat and entertained us for a while."
