Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Overall, we both thoroughly enjoyed the trip.  The mix of culture and other activities was about right. It can be too easy to get "templed out"!   All in all a great trip. Thank you Paul."
Tribes Service: "Nearly all the places we stayed were excellent, singling out particularly Spice Village and Barefoot at Havelock. The only exception was Sinclair's Bayview Hotel in Port Blair which, as Paul will know, we changed to from his suggestion! (Whoops!) From me struggling up the stairs with two heavy suitcases to reception where four people stood watching me to when we left , the service was poor and dysfunctional. The only glimmer of light came from the barman who was as helpful as he could be despite having no tonic for the gin!  Staff in all the other places could not have been more helpful."
Guides: "Organisation was excellent and someone always appeared at the right moment to steer us in the right direction for the next part of the adventure. Joseph played a key role in this and, like Naresh the year before, he was always there, on time, with appropriate advice and help. He could not have been more pleasant nor done more for us along the way."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Good"

Brunton Boatyard
A great place to start the trip to southern India. A lot to see in a small area so easy to get to. Right on the edge of the water with lots going on right beside you. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Seagull restaurant nearby excellent but beware size of portions...they are huge! Restaurant in hotel very good as well.
Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai
High on a hill overlooking Madurai the hotel had breathtaking views of the city. An old colonial building turned hotel it had the feel of time gone by. Restaurant staff a bit slow but elsewhere everyone was on the ball. We ate out in the evening so I can't comment on the dinner menu.
Kerala Houseboat
Such a different experience! The crew were great. The food they produced was very good and the whole experience was slick from start to finish. I think 24 hours was about the right length of stay.
Spice Village
This was a very special place. Thatched bungalows very well appointed, spotlessly clean and service par excellence. Apart from the trips out during the day, we ate twice in the evenings at the fifty mile restaurant. All the food had been produced within a fifty mile radius of the kitchen. Excellent menu and food beautifully cooked and served. There was even a very good drummer playing in the garden nearby!

Our Memories

"If I had to drop one of the trips it would be the trek to Periyar lake. It was pretty long and tedious and once we got to the lake there was little to see. I do realise that it gives employment to several guides who accompanied us but personally I would have been as happy wandering through the town soaking up the local atmosphere. The Kalaripayattu martial arts were well worth seeing in Kumily. The vast majority of the spectators were local which added to the occasion. A definite must for anyone travelling through there."
