Holiday review by Phillip Haywood
Name: Phillip HaywoodDate of trip: 14/08/2011
Number of people: 2
Country: TanzaniaOverall level of Satisfaction
Tribes Overall: "In several areas the holiday was excellent but was let down by one or two poorer locations"
Guides: "Joyful was a wonderful guide; very knowledgable and very patient. I would use him again. His knowledge of birds was not as extensive as I had hoped. Peter (the owner of Hoopoe) met us at Arusha for a briefing and gave us maps which was a nice touch."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "There was use of local labour, of solar power, local food and consideration for the wildlife."
Accommodation
Not up to expectations. We had asked for a location with wildlife and snorkelling. The beach area had no sea-life and the nearest snorkelling was 5 miles way by boat. The wind was from the South and caused waves and noise all ay particulalry at night time. On hindsight and with the desires we had for the tour we should have stayed in the north.
TRIBES REPLY: We have spoken with Mr Haywood about this. Whilst Fumba gets many excellent feedbacks as a rule, it does seem that Fumba Beach was not the right choice for Mr Haywood. We have apologised for getting it wrong on this occasion.
We stayed at 2 Kirurumu sites! Tarangire was very good. A tented lodge and not a classic camp as indicated. Staff, food, lodge good. Location was unfortunately wuite a drive from the park entrance. Manyra was also good. View tremendous. Staff, food. lodge good. More lodges than I had expected.
Probably the best camp of the lot. We should have stayed there 2 nights. The recommendation from Tribes to only stay for one night on the way to the north was wrong. As there is game all year plus a good area for predators and rhino you don't need to use it as a stop over.
Very good camp and location. Close to the crossing points. Could have made more of the location by having the tents look towards the river. Area is good for wildebeest when crossing but not mush other game around. 4 nights was 1 or perhaps 2 nights too long to stay.too long
Old tents and not as luxurious as I had expected or as the other Lamala camps.
A good place to stay overnight for the first night. nice food and room.
