Holiday review by Andrew Thomas
Name: Andrew ThomasDate of trip: 20/09/2013
Number of people: 2
Country: TanzaniaOverall level of Satisfaction
Tribes Overall: "We had high expectations but these were surpassed in terms of the quality of accommodation, cultural visits to the tribes, knowledge and friendliness of the guides, quality and quantity of the wildlife and varios habitats. Superb"
Tribes Service: "Excellent"
Guides: "Joyful and Yustus at Ubuntu were excellent guides - knowledgeable, patient and happy to work with us to shape our trip."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Certainly numbers of local people were employed and well trained which was good to see and the tipping guideleines were helpful. It is less transparent as to how fees for tribe visits benefit those tribes and in itself paradoxical that we want to improve living standards and opportunities but at the same time see them 'as they are'."
Accommodation
Only one night here and a late arrival/ early departure.
Beautiful setting with a lovely suite and good standards
We found this camp the best though this may have been as much to do with the gregariousness of the other guests there at the time (Aussies)as much as with the openness and friendlines of the staff. Warm welcome, attentive, details mattered (e.g. hot water bottles and leaving present key-rings!).The food was better too.
Our Memories
"Getting up at 4am in the dark and travelling cross country for a dawn rendezvous with the hunter-gatherers of the Hadzabe tribe. We sat round the fire beside the baobab tree and later in a rock shelter before going with them for a 2 hour hunt. Fortunately, from our pointof view, they only found wild honey which we shared. To think that we were so close to Olduvai and early man and to have the opportunity to touch those ancient ways of mankind. Fantastic."
