Accommodation

Sable Mountain Lodge
Comfortable stone cottages with framed mosquito nets. Wilderness feel due to paths in midst of vegetation. Woodland feel due to verdant nature of locality. Warm welcome and with good quality meals and an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Maramboi Tented Camp
Very comfortable tent on stilts. Solar energy used for hot water and lighting. Escourted by 'security' at night. Good quality food formally served and buffet breakfast. Great packed lunch, too. Great views of lake.

Kirurumu Manyara Lodge
Very good quality food. Veery friendly staff - keen to share language tips. Local choir and band performed at night.Solar panels provided hot water. Maasai guides provided security at night. Slight 'hotel resort' feel due only to paths around site, but endemic plants made up for this.

Mdonya Old River
Nick, camp manager, was a very good host - attentive without being intrusive. Colonial style of camp seemed slightly overwhelming on first night but we soon felt at ease and recognised admirabale teamwork and friendly atmosphere throughout the camp. Animals roamed freely - v. exciting! Sand paths led to large tents lit by kerosene lamps and into open bathrooms. Excellent food and provisions for vegetarains. Lunch/dinner in the bush was friendly and enjoyable, particularly because driver and guide joined us. 'Security' escorted us to and from tents at night. Fantastic environment - uniquely places.
