Just wonderful. A very special place, run by very special people. Very good food in a terrific setting, the open-sided bandas are very comfortable, and it's a real adventure to have your bedroom 'open' to nature. Loved the woodsmoke-scented hot water in the bucket showers, and the lovely setting of the place.
This is a charming place to spend a few days relaxing after a safari. The cottages have an almost 1930's colonial feel to them, and the location by the ocean is stunning. I had a wonderful massage from Esther, the food is really good, and it was nice to meet the Lodge dog, Eppo!
One of my favourites, this lovely camp is set on the side of a mountain with views across the valley to other mountains. My tent was extremely comfortable and quite elegant, and the view from the balcony was mesmerising. Food was fantastic, the staff cheerful, friendly and knowledgeable. The early morning walking safari was superb, and I'd return here like a shot!
Fantastic! Such friendly, knowledgeable people, who are really passionate about the wildlife. The tents certainly do have a view - over the Indian Ocean - and the five-course dinner under the stars was really, really good. Don't miss the chance for a game drive on the company's private land, including beautiful salt flats, and make sure you get a trip up the Roof of Saadani - their remarkable 30m tall tower!
This is relatively basic, but it is very comfortable and, unlike the chain hotels, it has its own local charm, so you feel that your holiday has started, even though it's really being used only as a crash pad before heading off into 'real' Africa. The Waterfront restaurant adjacent to the hotel is friendly and serves great grilled tuna, and the hotel's breakfasts are good.
A very smart, very comfortable, but very relaxed place for an Indian Ocean break. It has all the prerequisites - white
sand, blue sea, really, really nice cottages with excellent bathrooms, great food and a very nice pool.
This place has the real 'wow' factor. It is an English country houseparty in the bush! The designer has created truly stylish, HUGE stone cottages, which are like staying in an extremely elegant private house. The main pavilion, complete with full-sized snooker table, is breathtaking, as is the view. And the elephants wandering past the balcony make it just perfect. Incredible food, highly professional but friendly team - a real treat.
What can I say? A ride across turquoise waters brings you to a Robinson Crusoe island, dominated by the ruins of a Victorian light house. This is Boys' Own adventure stuff, but with really good food and great internal design! The Italian couple who manage the island are wonderful - and so passionate about nature and sustainability.
