Number of people: 2
Country: TanzaniaOverall level of Satisfaction
Tribes Overall: "This is our fourth holiday with Tribes, and as usual everything was perfectly planned."
Tribes Service: "Excellent"
Guides: "Elias was with us throughout Northern Tanzania and was a really good guide. He was very good at spotting animals and birds, and tried hard to help us find what we wanted to see. "
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Our guide Elias said his employers are very good, and he is paid a monthly salary, not just paid when he has work. The guides were all interested in helping wildlife and the staff at Chumbe were all very committed to preserving the reef and island. "
Accommodation
A fantastic spot, and a wonderful concept. The bungalows are cleverly designed to minimise impact on the environment. The reef is spectacular, and the boat driver took us for a trip on his(self-made)local sailing boat. The lunches and dinners were very good, but breakfast was a bit hit and miss. We were offered a menu on only one of the four mornings, the French toast and pancakes were not good, and breakfast was often cold . A few minor changes would make this place fantastic:
- better sheets (with an under sheet)
- cleaning the rooms while the activities are on (they know exactly when the rooms will be free, but often cleaned just as you wanted to get ready for snorkelling).
We were offered early morning tea, but it did not turn up on the last day.
Be prepared to get your feet (and legs!) wet, when arriving!
The staff were all great, and tried very hard, but did not always get it quite right, which is a shame.
A spectacular setting, with very comfortable accommodation, handy for Manyara Park. The staff were very helpful, but again the food could have been better.
Good location for Tarangire, good accommodation and staff, but the food was not brilliant; it was not bad, but we found other places later in the trip which did much better in similar conditions.
The location on the edge of the crater was spectacular. The rooms were perfectly functional, and the staff keen to help.
A beautiful spot just outside the crater; perfect to relax after a few days\' game viewing. We were upgraded to a suite, so had an especially luxurious room. Pretty gardens, a nice swimming pool, and good food. What more could you want?
Beautiful location, helpful staff, very comfortable accommodation and good food. We did a whole day safari, which included a lake trip, which was interesting.
This was by far the best run of the camps we visited, lots of little touches made a big difference. Good food, great coffee, well trained staff, early morning tea. We were collected from a point midway between Sable Mountain and Impala, and the guides brought drinks, home made biscuits and hot eucalyptus towels to greet us! Barbara and Andrea, the managers, spoke to everyone before dinner to plan the next day\'s activities, and went out of their way to ensure everyone went away happy. Brilliant!
Our Memories
"Watching 6 young elephants all trying to fit in a tiny puddle in Manyara!"
"Lions mating in Serengeti, and we were the only people around."
