Costa Rica holiday ideas experiences accommodation places to go when to visit costa-rica map reviews

Holiday review by Doctor Alan Plaice

Name:
Date of trip: 02/01/2020
Number of people: 2
Country: Costa Rica

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Although we stayed in 6 different locations in the 2 weeks, we saw a lot of the country, beaches, nature reserves and wildlife and stayed in some fabulous hotels but didn’t feel we were travelling all the time. The pickups for all the transfers and excursions were totally reliable, very efficient meticulous planning and attention to detail."

Tribes Service: "Tribes produced an excellent itinerary "

Guides: "Wildlife guides all excellent and knowledgable excellent Spoken English Only one driver was a bit reckless with his overtaking."

Social & Environmental Responsibility: "I don’t think we did any harm and contributed to the local economy "

Accommodation

Evergreen Lodge
Unique experience just to get there 40 mins by boat A great rainforest experience and rain like you will never have experienced in Europe Food fairly basic

Nayara Hotel Spa and Gardens
It’s actually 2 hotels so covers a large area 3 pools 3 places to eat, some quite steep paths The best appointed rooms of all sheer luxury Food a little pretentious and the most expensive £70 for a steak, bowl of pasta 2 beers

Andaz Papagayo Resort
A large golf hotel on the Papagayo peninsular catering for Americans and Canadians Felt a bit isolated Lots of facilities within hotel but not much chance of seeing local people and culture Probably worth hiring a car and getting out of the resort to see more of that side of the country Service varied. Food pretty good for large hotel especially breakfast Some wildlife in grounds

Namuwoki Lodge
Small and friendly great location in the jungle near the Caribbean coast beaches Great atmosphere. Beautiful fresh food cooked to order

Hotel Belmar
Attractive chalet style hotel We were lucky to have a room in the main building fabulous views Great service comfortable room Nice grounds to wander around Lived up the ethos of serving their own locally produced food, beautifully cooked and presented

Our Memories

"The noises in the rainforest at night The rain pelting down the monkeys howling Leaves & nuts falling from the trees sounded like the monkeys were throwing coconuts at the lodge An young apprentice guide in Cahuita who was able to spot so much of the wildlife especially sloths "
