Holiday review by Mrs. Jayne Johnson
Name: Mrs. Jayne JohnsonDate of trip: 27/07/2019
Number of people: 5
Country: Costa RicaOverall level of Satisfaction
Tribes Overall: "Excellent"
Tribes Service: "All of the transfers and pick ups were on time and the guides were all very knowledgable.
The only thing I would say is that we didn't always know what we needed for each trip eg. water shoes or hiking boots or trainers, whether to wear swimsuits or just take them with us, whether we needed long trousers for some jungle walks or shorts were fine."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Excellent"
Accommodation
The lodges were great - really gave you the feel of the jungle night sounds as there was no glass in the windows just an insect net. All the trips here were well organised. Would definitely recommend the turtle tour at night.
Lovely location on the beach. Small hotel. Nice breakfast. Ate lunch here sometimes but went out to local restaurants for dinner. Nice pool and friendly staff.
Our flight was delayed so didn't get to the hotel til 3am and got picked up at 6.30 for the transfer to Tortuguero so didn't have time to note that much about this hotel but what we saw was good.
Fantastic views of the volcano. We were lucky enough for the cloud to clear enough to see the top. Nice pool area and breakfast.
Unusual mix of eco and very modern hotel. Really loved our little bungalows.
This was the most basic hotel we stayed at but loved the remoteness of it and had an amazing view of the river. We walked through the neighbouring very expensive Pacuare Lodge when leaving the lodge and I think we had much better views of the river than the did. Food was basic too but good and plenty of it.
Our guide here, Esteban, was great!
Our Memories
"We loved everything! There was a great variety of locations/hotels all offering something different. My husband particularly loved Tortuguero as that is where we saw the most wildlife. We saw sloths, cayman, boa constrictors, howler and capuchin monkeys, iguanas, toucans and lots of other birds. The highlight was seeing the huge turtles laying their eggs on the beach at night.
We all loved the rafting. We managed to raft into Rio Tropicales as that was only grade 1 and 2 but we couldn't raft out because the rapids became more difficult further down river. Rio Tropicales was absolutely beautiful - we loved the remoteness and I loved having no wifi, although the kids didn't! Here it was all-out the river and nearby waterfalls and natural pools all within a few mins walk and with no people at them!
At Arenal we loved the zipling and the additional rafting you booked for us.
Rio Perdido was the best hotel and quite unusual having views out onto the canopy. The hot springs here were great.
We were ready for the rest when we got to Bahia Del Sol. This was a great quite hotel on a lovely beach. The waves were just right - big enough to jump but not so big as to be dangerous. We visited Flamingo beach and Tamarindo and were glad our hotel was on Portrero beach. We went on a sunset Catarmaran cruise on the last day and that was fantastic."
