Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Some of the accommodation was exactly what we hoped for others not so good. Wildlife viewing was good but we were surprised by some of the reserves focus being purely tiger ticks."

Tribes Service: "Yes, very much so and Paul was always an email away for any queries. His knowledge of the area we were visiting was very good."

Guides: "Generally the guides were good. Some took a little longer to grasp that we wanted to look at trees, birds and other mammals as well as tigers. A varying degree of overall wildlife knowledge by the naturalists."

Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Generally the experiences at the 3 excellent reserves got this rating because we felt they were definitely eco lodges who supported the local communities and by going there we were contributing to that end. Chambal lodge also fitted this category but noise factors prevented excellent rating. So 4 out 8 lodges"

Accommodation

Chambal Safari Lodge
The only disappointment here was the noise at night from wedding celebrations well into the early hours of the morning on both nights we stayed here. This was pretty unlucky!! However, we loved the place, the people and the accommodation. Excellent food and care to make sure dietary requirements were met. It was a place that they made you feel very at home.

Forsyths Lodge
We loved the peace and tranquility here and were staggered by the amount of time the guide was with you. It was lovely to eat meals with them and just wander the grounds as well as do safaris. This really is a family feel. Again really working with the local community and addressing the needs re work and education. No plastic bottle used and reverse osmosis water supply. They were diligent about dietary needs and made sure everything was suitable. Sid was an excellent guide and paid real attention to what we wanted out of our visit.

Kings Lodge
At last a peaceful, fabulous place! Lovely people who were friendly, helpful and very caring. Excellent attention to detail. Working with the local community and addressing the needs re work and education. They were diligent about dietary needs and made sure everything was suitable. No plastic bottle used and reverse osmosis water supply. Loved the ethos of the place and the ecolodge sustainability ideas, fits well with our travel values. Also like the fact that they offered presentations every evening. Would 5 star rate this place. KD the Pugdundee guide was excellent in his knowledge and caring manner.

Singinawa
Fabulous place! Good food and very friendly. Some lovely touches to show they were willing to go the extra mile. Working with the local community and addressing the needs re work and education. Again, loved the ethos of the place and the ecolodge sustainability ideas, fits well with our travel values. No plastic bottle used and reverse osmosis water supply. They were diligent about dietary needs and made sure everything was suitable. Sachin was a super guide and very knowledgeable about the reserve

The Bagh
Not a good stay, thankfully only for one night. The room had no hot water. The next day when we had an early start for our only visit to Bharatpur there was no one in the dining room for breakfast. (Even though we were told it was open). Ourselves and another couple had to wait. Eventually someone dashed in at 6.40 and tried to sort out breakfast for us all before we left at 7.00 to meet our guide. We managed a rushed part breakfast and half a cup of tea and was late for the guide who rang to check where we were!! Would not recommend.

Tuli Tiger Corridor Pench
The service was average. It was not as Eco-friendly as the previous few lodges and the same smiling greetings we had been used to from our past three lovely lodges were few and far between. Wouldn't stay again. Loved the Pench reserve

The Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge
The lodge setting was lovely and the people friendly. The ethos of working with the local community was there but the respect and care for the local villagers that had been in our 3 excellent rated accommodations was not really demonstrated. The park drivers were of differing quality and we definitely felt that wanting to look at other wildlife like birds was rather puzzling to the park guide and our guide. A definite tiger focus not wildlife.

Our Memories

"Observing the different ways of life in rural India. Learning about the positives and negatives that face the future generations of this area in India. Seeing the wildlife of the region and having the opportunity for sightings of different wildlife not to be a one off. Contributing to the future of the ecotourism in the region and the importance of this for local communities. Some of the special moments were:- *seeing a leopard at night and paddling down the tranquil river at Satpura - magical, *watching the troupes of Langurs and the antics they get up to, some really human poses - all reserves *watching a serpent eagle fly off the floor having just caught a parakeet - Kanha *seeing dhole eat a samba deer and watch the pack behaviour as they bring pups and look out for other threats as they rip the deer to bits - Tadoba * watching a mongoose sniff out and dig up a toad to eat - Chambal *gharials and Indian skimmers along the river - Chambal"
