Holiday review by Mr. Timothy Somervell

Name:
Date of trip: 09/03/2018
Number of people: 4
Country: South Africa

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Great trip and surpassed our hopes and expectations."

Tribes Service: "Very knowledgeable and professional service once again as we now expect from Tribes. "

Guides: "Kaniso guided us in Cape Town area including wine tour - very friendly and knowledgeable. Matt at Kariega guided us for 4 days on photographic safari - a great character with extensive knowledge of the wildlife and habitat and all things photographic. He got us into some great positions for excellent sightings and photo opportunities."

Social & Environmental Responsibility: "We were advised by our guide that tourists are avoiding Cape Town / Southern Africa as a result of drought publicity - this is affecting the local economy and employment. We were not impacted by the drought other than not being able to take a bath - requested to have a (short) shower instead. Countryside and wildlife were still fantastic."

Accommodation

Cape Grace Hotel
Lovely welcome every time we arrived back at the hotel - with a friendly smile and greeting of "welcome home" from the doorman. All staff very helpful and keen to make our stay special..

Franschhoek Country House and Villas
Lovely setting and water features in the grounds. Our suite was lovely but the bed was a bit hard for our preference. Hotel Restaurant menu was a combination of "small plates" - from which you were recommended to select 3 to 5 dishes, which was nice for 1 night but there are many other fabulous restaurants in the town.

De Zeekoe Guest Farm
Ostrich fillet steak in the restaurant was to die for - best meat dish of our holiday. Meerkat watching at dawn was great but gets fully booked so book ahead if you want to do that activity.

Kariega River Lodge
Lovely location by the river, very relaxing to sit with a drink and watch the wildlife including the cheeky monkeys trying to steal food. Fully inclusive of all food and drinks unless you had special requests for drink that they needed to buy in specially - which was not needed as they had a good selection. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Aim to arrive by 2pm as there will be an afternoon game drive on your arrival day.

Our Memories

"Everything - we had a good variety of activities - highlight was probably our photographic safari in Kariega where we saw many different species of animals and birds."
