Country: Uganda

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "A great itinerary. We would advise the getting the drive to Bwindi out of the way early. This gets the hard, rough roads out of the way, and also after all the good food I'm not sure I would be fit enough to trek gorillas. The one regret is that we didn't have the time to include a trip to Kidepo (apparently the best NP)"
Tribes Service: "It is great to have established a relationship where Tracy understands what it is that we enjoy and look for in our holidays. All of the lodges on this trip fitted that profile."
Guides: "Augustine was absolutely brilliant. Throughout the trip he was ahead of things, always explaining the schedule and providing advanced information of what to expect. The result was that we were in the right place at the right time on numerous occasions. I like to think that was down to him more than luck. "
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "All of the lodges seemed genuinely concerned about the environment and reducing their carbon footprint. A couple of best practices that should be considered for adoption by the others: Ishasha Wilderness Lodge use refillable toiletry containers and provide drinking water in flasks to reduce the amount of plastic."

Ishasha Wilderness Camp
The best of all. Food was amazing. Room opened onto a tree covered in WeaverBird nests. Bucket showers arrived on time, perfect temperature, and those Eco credentials. Also the best library of the lodges. We even had the place to ourselves on one of the nights. Oh and did we mention the food! One advantage of being here in the off season is that the park was relatively free of people and vehicles. So we had hours of uninterrupted time with those tree climbing lions.
Mihingo Lodge
I know we were on a short schedule, but we wish we had had an extra day to see everything that Mihingo had to offer. Great view from the lodge, lovely staff, and I think we could have spent hours at the animal hide.
Mahogany Springs Lodge
What excelled here was the staff. All were genuinely interested in how our treks had gone, and they even clean your boots after you have done your best to bring the mountain home. Food was great, packed lunches a treat (especially veg samosas). Gorilla treks were great, porters an absolute must! One minor criticism, after ordering breakfast for 7am the night before, knowing we had to eat the park for 8am, it didn't arrive until after 7:30. Finally, a walk around the village is recommended especially a visit to the ride 4 a woman charity.

Our Memories

"Watching a shoebill trying to fish, having been stood stark still for over 30minutes. Trying to work out how 5 very rotund lions could stay balanced on very thin tree branches. Seeing an adolescent gorilla nearly get catapulted across the forest floor."
