Holiday review by Doctor Richard Taylor
Name: Doctor Richard TaylorDate of trip: 12/02/2013
Number of people: 2
Country: KenyaOverall level of Satisfaction
Tribes Overall: "Travelling long distances in heat of day.we tried to get a map before we went but were unable to find one. The itinerary we got gave no indication that we were travelling 1400 km over such bad roads."
Tribes Service: "Only possible improvement as above re travel. Almost as an after thought we got the info re upgrading the tent size. The last 2 nights were in the Masai Mara in a 'permanent' tented site. More 'luxurious' but we would have rather had the company etc of our guide and ourselves. This was not explained in the documentation."
Guides: "Driver/guide (Sammy) was faultless, really excellent and very patient etc. The cook/assistant (Lumbai) had verbal diarrhea and became intrusive at times. He was kind, solicitous, attentive and knowledgeable, but we had to be almost rude to shut him up at times!"
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Good"
Accommodation
rosemary fell on the coral.the first aid kit was excellent and ralph would have been able to stitch wounds.fortunatey i had all the stuff as well and 7 stitches and other wounds steristrip, all done on the floor in the open air reception.!!
Close to airport. Souless. Isolated. Nowhere to walk to. No choice of eating out. Wrong side of town for next day/A2 road. Almost 1 hr away from operators base. 1 1/2 hrs late to start as traffic horrendous. Good for last night as close to airport for 5.30 pick up
Samburu - Excellent.
Maralal - appalling! Waste of time. Uninterestig. Certainly NOT colourful. No tribes. Many more on road side but did not stop as we were to see them in town!!
Bogoria - excellent.
Lake Navaisha - Crescent island POOR. Uninterested guide. Dead animals. No effort. Nothing to commend it. We had a magical time on our own by the lake with the bird life but avoid the island and do a slow boat trip for birds and hippos etc instead.
Loita Hills - very rough access but very good. Robert the local chief and guide was a little over self important.
Our Memories
"In the Masai Mara we saw mating lion and mating elephant.1-2 day old hippo. Family of lions with cubs x 5 and 3 females. All in one day!"
