Holiday review by Mr. Robert Stopford

Date of trip: 26/07/2017
Number of people: 5
Country: Costa Rica

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Costa Rica offers such a wide variety of things to see and activities so there really is something for everyone. We wanted a holiday which was completely different from the kind of trip we would normally take, and in particular we wanted to expose the children to a new part of the world, and to teach them why it is important to look after our planet. This holiday definitely fulfilled those aims."
Tribes Service: "The pre-departure info was very helpful. When our BA flight was delayed by 24 hours, our onward plans were tweaked very quickly and efficiently to ensure we didn't fall behind with our itinerary. All of our transfers between destinations worked very smoothly - everyone was where they were supposed to be at the appointed time. "
Guides: "All our drivers were good but the one who met us at the airport (Alex) was particularly friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated him taking us all the way to Puerto Viejo instead of just to Finca Rosa Blanca after our BA flight was delayed by 24 hours. As for guides, Carlos Arceyut in Tortuguero and Juan Carlos in Monteverde were very knowledgable and fantastic at spotting birds & wildlife for us. And our hotel guide Alonso from Casa Corcovado also looked after us brilliantly during the 3 days we were in Osa."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "It's hard to know from the point of view of wildlife/environment, but we and our children certainly learnt an enormous amount during this trip. In terms of local people, our being there must have been beneficial as the economy is built on tourism."

Finca Rosa Blanca
Extremely comfortable rooms with lovely balconies offering a fantastic view over the surrounding gardens and the city. Delicious food in the restaurant and we enjoyed the tour of the coffee plantation across the road.
Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge
This was our favourite hotel. The amazing boat trip down the Sierpe river, out into the ocean and along the coast to the lodge, jumping out of the boat onto the beach, where a pair of scarlet macaws circled over our heads, all added to the sense of adventure at being in this incredible place. The welcome and service by the staff was fantastic, probably helped by the fact that there were only 10 guests staying for the start of our time here i.e. more staff than guests! The characterful lodges were beautifully appointed, comfortable and private. Our guides Alonso and Cynthia looked after us amazingly well, were very knowledgable and patient with all our questions! Everything was beautifully planned, from tours and excursions, to the delicious picnic lunches provided next to the lodge's beach. As this lodge borders on the National Park, we were able to walk straight from the hotel grounds into the park with our guide, instead of having to take a boat to the ranger station. The location and remoteness make this a truly special place.

Our Memories

"The exposure to wildlife throughout the trip was certainly very special. A highlight for us was sitting on the beach in Tortuguero in the dark watching green turtles coming out of the ocean, digging their holes, laying eggs, and then making their way back into the ocean - a very moving experience. And I would say being able to visit the Osa Peninsula was very special, in particular watching mother and baby humpback whales playing while we were on our snorkelling trip to Cano Island."
