Costa Rica holiday ideas experiences accommodation places to go when to visit costa-rica map reviews

Holiday review by Mr. Dyfrig Davies

Date of trip: 26/04/2017
Number of people: 2
Country: Costa Rica

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "We had an absolutely amazing holiday. Costa Rica is a lovely country to visit with a wide variety of activities, friendly people, lovely accommodation and so much fantastic wildlife on your door step. The food everywhere was really nice and you can safely drink the tap water. The only change we would have made to our comprehensive schedule is to swap the order of the last two locations. We would have preferred to fly to Casa Corcovado via Drakes Bay and then end the holiday at the Parador Resort in Manuel Antonio. This would have kept the flow of wildlife lodges together and then end in a luxury resort, which still had an amazing amount of wildlife everywhere. We would also have liked to have had another day at each of the locations we visited. "
Tribes Service: "The Tribes website provided more information than all of the other travel websites. Everything flowed easily from initial enquires, through booking, all of the way to the end of the holiday. We think more information should have been provided prior to the holiday for the trip to and from Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge: 1. All flights within Costa Rica have a limited baggage allowance in terms of weight and dimensions. This was something we found out prior to our visit and it was confirmed by Tribes, but only when we enquired. This should have been provided in the initial information. We were informed in San Jose that surplus luggage could be left (and possibly transported to another location) but this information was not clear and needed to be planned before departure. 2. The landing at Casa Corcovado is a WET LANDING as is the departure and landing at Drakes Bay. For this you need waterproof shoes and shorts, Again it would have helped if we had known this before arriving at the boat. We were very happy with the choice of hotels and lodges which provided us with a great experience, and we feel that we saw a good cross section of Costa Rican habitats. "
Guides: "All of the guides, drivers and hotel staff were very knowledgeable and amazing at locating birds and wildlife in every location, even in the evenings and whilst driving between locations. They all also had a good command of the English language. Generally, the groups were small and almost all of the guides had spotting scopes which enables to see birds that we would have had problems in locating otherwise. Everyone was so enthusiastic and cared about the wildlife and ensured that we saw such a wide variety of animals and birds up close, everywhere we went. "
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "All of the Costa Ricans we met were very positive about protecting the environment and wildlife. This approach is supported by the government and has resulted in a country wide support for wild life and restoring the jungle habitat."

Alta Hotel
Brilliant to start and end your holiday but be aware it is outside of San Jose.
Evergreen Lodge
This place is amazing with a lovely location along the waterways and where you feel you are sleeping with the wildlife.
Parador Resort and Spa
Luxury resort with so much wildlife amongst you e.g. sloth and monkeys in trees throughout grounds, iguanas, hawks and so many birds.
Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge
First class eco lodge set in the middle of the jungle with amazing views out to sea. Great snorkelling at nearby Cano island

Our Memories

"We loved being able to wander through jungle paths meeting wildlife after guided walks had shown us suitable routes. Costa Ricans are so positive about promoting and saving wild life that the wildlife is relatively unafraid e.g. monkeys jumping between trees above us whilst we were swimming in the hotel pool, Tapirs eating green mangoes as we walked within feet of them on the way to dinner and humming birds in the bushes by the restaurant."
