Learn with the Maasai or Samburu
What better way to experience a place than through the people who live there, it's an exciting and memorable way for a family to enjoy a new destination together. The Warrior's Academy is eye-opening and great fun.

A real eye-opener
The Warrior's Academy is the perfect experience for children from about 7 years upwards, though younger children will also always find something entertaining and fascinating to enjoy. Whilst there is a strong educational flavour to this experience, it won't seem like it to the kids, they'll just have fun!
The activities are tailored to the ages of the children, but the key is that a warrior (moran) will be your guide, the relationship with the warrior and the other tribes people will make this a special part of your trip.
Together with your warrior, you'll learn to track wildlife, make beaded artefacts, practise with bows and arrows, explore the customs and traditions of the Maasai or Samburu people and join them in herding cattle, milking goats and hear stories of Maasai bravery. This is all about getting involved and learning without realising.
Where to go
We can offer this experience in Kenya’s Samburu and also in the Masai Mara, based at the safari camps run by Saruni (Saruni Samburu and Saruni Mara).
The Warrior’s Academy experience can be tailored to you and your family It can be anything from a half day to 3 days. It does not cost any extra on top of your safari and you can do this both at Saruni Samburu and Saruni Mara.
When to go
It is best to avoid the rainiest months of April and May when the long rains occur. November is the short rainy season, so you might want to avoid this too, but actually it can still be a good time to come and it tends not to rain all the time.
