Spending time with the San Bushmen
The Central Kalahari is one of the country's largest reserves and was once a traditional home of the San, but sadly most have moved out now. However, there are places where you can meet these fascinating people, namely the Kalahari and Makgadikgadi or Nxai Pan regions. They are only too pleased to share elements of their traditional life with interested visitors.

Learn how they find water in the middle of the desert, use simple traps to catch wildlife, make fire, forage. If you have an interest in tribal cultures, you will love such an experience.

Informative, fun and very worthwhile
This promises to be an educational, informative and memorable experience. It's not often you get an insight such as this into a culture whose stories, traditions and knowledge has passed through the generations and are still practiced by some to this day.
Where to go
Certain lodges employ San to share their traditional culture, skills and stories with visitors. Some of the lodges which offer this are: Meno a Kwena, Tau Pan, Kalahari Plains Camp, Deception Valley Lodge, Jack’s Camp, Nxai Pan Camp and Nxamaseri Lodge.
How and when to do it
This is done as an experience through each of the camps mentioned above. The experience will be different from each camp (and not all San Bushmen wear traditional dress). If it is not included in the general activities it can be arranged locally at a time to suit. There is no right or wrong time for this.
