Seeing the Falls, seeing our first leopards, a pair hunting together at night getting very close to catching an Impala (thrilling) and the whole laid back, slightly hippy vibe of Kaya Mawa which is very different to normal upscale tropical resorts with no fences or gates, locals mixing with guests on the beach, no locking doors or windows - wonderful.

The driver at Livingstone for a day, Kelvin, was excellent. White water rafting was thrilling. The trip to the top of the falls (done through Chundukwa Lodge) was expensive, at about $150 each, including lunch on Livingstone island and swimming in the Angels pool. Jane felt there was too much emphasis on the taking of photos there. We loved the safaris and the sundowners. Highlights were the pride of lions, seeing a leopard kill, the exotic birds, crossing the river each day. We found the walking safari thrilling and saw a hyena running from an elephant carcass. Seeing the elephants and hippos so close to the verandah at Kafunta. The elephants in the camps.

First dinner at Kafunta with the view over the flood plain realising that we were really were looking at and hearing hippos; the pontoon crossing; Andrew reversing sharply to avoid an elephant in must; Andrew hearing the baboon alarm call, noting where the baboon was looking and finding a leopard and 2 cubs in the bush at that spot; the first time we stopped for tea on our game drive - climbing out of the truck and standing on the ground after we'd just seen a lioness and 3 cubs a few hundred metres away; Three rivers Camp - the whole experience; the pool at Blue Zebra island lodge; kayaking around Nankoma Island with my son Joe.

I was hoping and expecting that the holiday would be interesting and even exciting (which it was) but I wasn't expecting it to be so relaxing. There were loads of moments when I felt completely calm and relaxed in the spectacular natural environment. The fact that every Zambian and Malawian we met was ready with a smile and a joke greatly helped. Lovely people.
