The Maasai Olympics

This biennial event was introduced in an area of the Chyulu Hills in southern Kenya (between Tsavo East and Amboseli) to replace the tradition of hunting lions to show that a young man had become a warrior.

This is a really important conservation initiative as the Maasai of the area now have a valued alternative to their age-old hunting tradition, so the lives of many lions will be saved.

The next ‘olympics’ is on 15^th December 2018.
