Just an hour by road from Victoria Falls, or an hour and a half by river you will find the luxurious Zambezi Sands River Lodge. With just eight tents you are assured of personal service and warm Zimbabwean hospitality.
The tents are built on stilts, right on the banks of the river with enough space between each one to ensure privacy. By design they are modern with Bedouin style canvas providing shade and large sliding doors and picture windows making the most of the views. Each tent has a lounge area with doors out to the deck, twin four-poster double beds adorned with attractive and functional mozzie nets, a mini-bar, safe and ceiling fan complete the room. The en-suite bathroom has a free standing bathtub and outdoor shower.
The decor is both classic and elegant, with dark wooden crafted furniture and natural hues accented with deep oranges. Whether you are lying in bed or relaxing in the lounge area, the river is visible, however you may prefer to enjoy the view from the expansive deck. There is a bistro table and chairs at one end of the deck, while at the other, adjacent to the sun loungers is the refreshing plunge pool. It's right on the edge of the deck, so it almost feels as though you are taking a dip in the Zambezi river itself.
The L-shaped main building is also built on stilts on the banks of the river. It houses the lounge, bar and dining area together with a sizeable deck which is also used for dining al-fresco. More intimate starlit dinners can be served on the small patio, down by the river bank. The sunken fire-pit surrounded by chairs provides the venue for pre and post dinner drinks and chat.
With its enviable river bank location Zambezi Sands is fortunate to be able to offer both water and land based activities. And whilst the Zambezi National Park may not be quite as game rich as Hwange or Mana Pools, there is still plenty of wildlife and the guides will do their utmost to ensure you get the most of your time here. You can enjoy traditional game drives in an open 4x4 vehicle, or perhaps you might like to try the exhilaration of an early morning walking safari with the pro guides. The river also offers opportunities to view wildlife from either a boat on a sunset cruise or by canoe, and why not try a spot of fishing while you are here, it's addictive. It is possible to visit Victoria Falls as there is plenty to see and do there – we can arrange this beforehand if you prefer. The pop-up spa provides welcome relaxation after busy days out exploring.
