Victoria Falls Safari Lodge

Zimbabwe

Very enjoyable. Lovely to see our first impalas, crocodiles and elephants at the waterhole from the hotel balcony. The children were thrilled to see wart hogs and banded possums in the garden of the hotel. Lovely peaceful cruise on the Zambezi. We all enjoyed the Falls and got extremely wet. Lovely rooms.

This lodge is 4 km outside the main street and we were glad as this area is very commercialised and people are constantly trying to sell you their wares. There is a courtesy bus from the lodge to four stops including The Falls and this was very useful. One building is the Safari Lodge and the other is the Safari Club and we had a room at the latter. You have access to all areas and the views are lovely. There is a watering hole which is floodlit at night so you can dine watching the wildlife with a table right on the edge of restaurant if you book ahead. We did not attend the Boma drum night but gather this was fun. We watched 100+ vultures being fed at 1pm and learnt a lot about their plight and the fact they are becoming an endangered species. The staff were very helpful and we booked a sunset cruise and helicopter ride over The Falls through them. We turned out to be the only two on the sunset cruise and they did not cancel it!

Although much larger than our normal choice of accommodation this was not a problem due to the clever design of blocks of rooms all at an angle facing the waterhole. The waterhole was wonderful, and as we had come here to wind down after our travels we were more than happy sitting on our balcony watching the wildlife come and go. The food was excellent and again the staff coped smoothly with the number of guests. We were very glad we were not in the centre of Vic Falls and the shuttle service was fine for getting to the Falls themselves.

A hotel experience. With great views of the park and river. Lots of activities available. Shuttle bus service works well.

After the experience of the lodges room seemed a little cramped. Things that worked in its favour were the friendliness of the staff, the efficiency in booking us a helicopter trip at short notice and the Boma dinner show which sounds quite cheesy but we would suggest is a must do-unless your a vegetarian.

This is more like a hotel than the other places I stayed and it was tough going back to having to take care of myself again. But the hotel made it easy.

This is an excellent base for wildlife lovers wildest visit in Victoria Falls.. There was a stream of animals coming to the waterhole to drink and also quite a number of birds. We wanted a base to relax after a long journey from the UK and this was perfect. We did a guided tour of the falls which we enjoyed and a sunset cruise which again made a good start to our wildlife experience. We had our first sightings of swimming elephants. The lodge also had a vulture experience which was worth going to where the vultures were fed and there was a talk on how vultures were endangered. The lodge was very comfortable and the food excellent.
