Location: About 1 hour's flight (and a 6 hour drive) south of Salvador, on the Bahia coast.

Rooms: There are 38 suites, in several categories including superior and luxury apartments, superior, luxury and premium cottages. They are set throughout the grounds, some near the sea and others on the hill. All offer simple but spacious accommodation. They are air conditioned with a king-size bed with mosquito net, CD player and other amenities. Some bungalows have an outdoor whirlpool bath or plunge pool.

Activities: There are daily guided walks in the rainforest and on beach trails. You can also explore the area by mountain bike or go horse riding. Other activities available include surfing, canoeing, rafting and tennis - the resort has 2 tennis courts.

Facilities: There are 5 swimming pools. The main pool is 25 metres in length and has a shallow children's pool and sundeck with loungers and parasols. There are 2 living rooms in the colonial style mansion, where you can mingle and relax, maybe enjoy a DVD in the private cinema, watch television or check the internet. The hotel has a small boutique selling swimwear and holiday essentials. The resort has a gym. The Shamash Spa offers a wide range of beauty and therapeutic treatments.

Dining: You have a choice of dining options. The South Restaurant has been built a traditional Bahian style with a high thatched roof while the North Restaurant is set near the beach. Meals are mainly Brazilian and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. A couple of times a week fresh pizzas are baked in the large outdoor oven. There are 4 bars in the resort, one in each of the two living rooms and one each at the north and the south swimming pools.

Children: Children are very welcome at Txai. Babysitting services are available, as are cots, and extra beds can be put in the rooms. There is a children's pool, and a children's menu is available.
